Craig Bohl's demeanor

CSU played with us that 2nd half they coulda hung more on us, no doubt about that!!!

They're our rival. I doubt they relinquished points they could've had. I'm sure they would rather enjoyed 33 or 40-7 win over 26-7...

They may be our rival, but they don't really view us as their main rival anymore. CU is a far bigger game for them. In an interview with their coach before the game, he stated "we have 3 rivals". Times change, and as much as I want us to beat CSU, the luster is off the game.

Agreed (unfortunately). For some reason I watched the end with them getting the boot. They didn't really care - just going through the motions. Little emotion (kind of like our overall in-game performance).

Not drawing any singular or definitive conclusions...I'm just interested in some theories from the board.

I haven't seen him lose his cool once this season - or last for that matter. He has stayed incredibly even keeled throughout his first 2 seasons and seems like he's in complete control and has this thing on the right track despite what has been a more than difficult season.

So what's your read? Are you offended that Bohl shows no outward signs of being offended, not relating to the angst of many here, a few who have even mentioned we should drop the program a level?

Or perhaps Bohl has the absolute security of knowing he has 5 years no matter what -- and the sense in getting emotional and visceral at this point, showing anger, showing frustration, this would be counter productive at this juncture?

Would love to hear a few of your theories.

Thanks.

I'm a coach. What I've been taught in coaching education is that you have to project calm to your team regardless of circumstances. When times get hard, players look to the coach for leadership. If the team is getting blown out and the coach is losing his mind, that mindset will take hold in the team. You have to model the behavior you want your team to demonstrate. If you lose your cool in the face of adversity, you can't expect your team to keep it together. If you're a whiny bitch at the referees, you can expect your players to be the same. I don't have a problem at all with Bohl keeping a calm demeanor on the sideline regardless of circumstances.

This is fine except he isn't calm before ,after, and in practice. Quite the opposite actually. He is vocal and demanding. His press face is what I call it.

Well, practice is different and people have their own styles there (I'm not much of a yeller myself), the point I am making is specific to in-game demeanor and "crisis management," so to speak.

This is one of the most intelligent posts I have seen on this board. Well done coach!

this right here, he is 1 tough S O B and talks the talk in practice barking at the kids.

Im surprised at bohls lack of passion in the post game press conferences, but I think he knows he has ZERO to work with. next year he'll get excited.

Lake, with all due respect, if Bohl has nothing to work with, don't you think that would be HIS FAULT? He's the head coach, and he recruited these kids, so at least some of the blame has to lie at his feet. This is his 2nd year as head dude, and most of us are willing to give him ample time to turn it around, but right now he doesn't look like some super coach....he looks like a mere mortal FCS coach trying to figure out how to play in the big leagues. Perhaps instead of barking at the kids he should start barking at his staff and the guy looking back at him in the mirror.

He knew what he was getting into, prior to taking the job. He knew he would have 22 seniors to work with his first season. He knew he would have 9 seniors to work with his second. He knew there would be player attrition as well, from not only his recruits, but those players still in place at UW. He did very little to recruit & back-fill with JC kids for either of his first 2 classes. He also decided (and was allowed by our awesome AD), to fulfill his fantasy of 3 championships at his NDSU, and stay in that capacity as head-coach, instead of assembling a staff and hitting the recruiting trail hard in early December his first season / recruiting season.

Him having ZERO to work with is all on him. And it has wrecked havoc with the fan base (ala Schroyer all over again).

Bohl obviously isn't whining about having zero to work with, and he didn't "know" any of the things you mentioned above. Hell, he thought he was going to have Brett Smith his first year with the program. You know that you'll experience injuries and attrition. You just don't expect it all to come at a single position, or to have as many injuries as we've had. This isn't an excuse, but saying that he knows this shit is going to happen is dumb.

He's developing a program. Not backfilling with JUCO guys. There are some bumps in the road during that process. It sucks to be a fan during that time, but based on his resume, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for a couple more years. If we're playing a bunch of sophomores next year that still suck, I'll start getting worried. For now, it's basketball season.

Bohl doesn't take juco kids. His kids to build a 4-5 year plan is what he does, it will work !!

Y'all need to swallow hard this year. Build around HILL and tighten up the defense!
