Legerski simply knows how to run a program. The cycle is predictable and comforting. He rebuilds with young talent and as they mature they compete for a Top 3 finish in the MWC. This is basically his 4th cycle. During his tenure he has had two major rebuild seasons where he replaced nearly all the staters and had very little senior contributions (or none in last year's case). Each time he Cowgirls struggled in OOOC, but improved as the season went on and finished .500 in conference play ( a level the Cowboys haven't reached in 8 years over three separate coaches).
It's really amazing to watch and he is basically the prototype for a Wyoming coach(along with Tom Johnson).
MWC is a one bid league though in Women's hoops this year. It all comes down to Vegas. Cowgirls have a good shot, but it sure would be nice if they could end up on the opposite side of the bracket from SDSU and have someone knock off the Lady Aztecs. Cowgirls simply struggle with the athleticism of the Lady Aztecs.
Cowgirls are positioned well for future years as well. Only significant losses will be Sickles and Sewell. Lewis will step into a starting role and be a big time contributor next year, but the other front court spot is a question mark. Could be Boehme, although I wonder if Joe doesn't try to bring in one more JC or International player to fill that gap.
Otherwise. This team is stacked for next year. Three guards who will be in their third year starting together (Mileto, Woodward, Gorrell) with excellent bench depth from Landry and Dent and some depth in the front court with some combination of Boehme, Sibrel, Gordon, and Thiam alongside Lewis at the 4.
The departure of BYU, Utah, and TCU have really weakened MWC Women's hoops, but as a result the Cowgirls loom poised to compete in the Top 3 for the next few years with this core. Hopefully Legerski gets his long overdue MWC title.
