LARAMIE – Something has to give tonight when the University of Wyoming takes on the Air Force Academy in a Western Wrestling Conference showdown.
The Cowboys (9-4, 3-0 WWC) host the Falcons (10-2, 2-0) for the right to stay unbeaten in the league.
The 6:30 p.m. dual in the UniWyo Sports Complex is the last home appearance for the Pokes this season.
The only other undefeated team in the conference is Northern Iowa (8-8, 2-0). UW will meet the Panthers on Feb. 20 in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
UW also will honor four Cowboys for Senior Night. They are Cole Dallaserra, Shane Doughman, Matthew McLaughlin and Jack Tennant.
UW and Air Force wrestled three common opponents this season. Both beat North Dakota State and South Dakota State and lost to Oregon State.
The Cowboys dominated the teams from the Dakotas at home last weekend. They beat South Dakota State 49-0 and North Dakota State 35-3.
“It was a good weekend, for sure,” coach Mark Branch said. “You saw some individual battles, but I kind of liked our grit. We need more of that kind of effort, where our kids are out there looking to improve.”
UW has a 34-12 lead in the series with Air Force.
The Cowboys are still ranked in the top 25 in all four collegiate wrestling publications: NWCA Coaches Poll (25th); D1 College Wrestling (22nd); WIN Magazine (18th); and InterMat (17th).
Individual UW wrestlers ranked in the InterMat poll are: Shane Onufer (fourth, 165 pounds), Joe LeBlanc (fifth, 184), Michael Martinez (16th, 125) and Dallaserra (17th, 149).
