Could we finish 3-6 with no bowl game?

3-0..... We have a good start towards going bowling right? I see a lot of people happy about being 3-0 with no consideration to who we have played and how lucky we've been to win those games.
For instance, It took a minor 4th down miracle to beat mighty weber state from the big sky conf. Texas State from I don't know what conference handled us in laramie for a half. And bowling green who went 2-10 last year and turned the ball over six times still had a chance to beat us, but we blocked the xtra point. The fact of the matter is, we could just as easily be 1-2 against these fcs schmucks as 3-0.

So who thinks we are going bowling? I'll tell you what. We are 3-0 and I say right now we are not going to a bowl game. I have such little confidence in this defense that here's how I see the rest of the season.
I hope I'm wrong but, I'm realistic, not a sunshine pumper.
vs. Nebraska - 48-17 L
@ Utah St.- 38-28 L
vs. UNLV- 45-42 W
@SDSU - 42-20 L
vs TCU - 45-20 L
@AFA - 36-28 L
vs NM - 38-28 W
@Boise - 59-14 L
@CSU - 34-28 L

So I guess I'll put my money where my mouth is. I'm willing to bet the first four people who are willing $50 each that we do not go to a bowl game. If we go to a bowl game I will paypal each of you four people $50. If we don't go bowling, Then each of you paypal me $50. We are not betting on a record, just simply if we go to a bowl game or not. Anyone confident enough given a 3-0 start to bet me?
I will also take the next 5 people at $10 each if there are that many who would like to have a friendly bet.

I guess I dont see many people here, or anyone really, that is taking these wins without consideration of circumstance. To the contrary, it seems to me that pretty much everyone is cautiously optomistic. I agree our defense is bad (our pass defense is HORRIBLE). But you seem to WANT the Pokes to fail. Why is that?
 
Dude, lay off. Cautious optimism is the sense I get with most of the Poke fans I talk to. Everyone knows we started of with two FCS teams, and it took some late-game heroics to get a win against Weber. But here's the thing, those late-game heroics came from a true freshman QB playing his first college game. Was I excited about that part of it, hell yeah I was. And then we handled business against Texas State.

We beat a decent Bowling Green team on the road, and didn't play our best game. Maybe they were the better team, but the scoreboard didn't say so on Saturday afternoon.

I'm realistic too, but here's what has me cautiously optomistic. Previous teams, even last year, would have found a way to lose both of those games (Weber and BG). These guys found a way to win. I'll take that every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Finding ways to win is what makes good teams great. I know we have Nebraska this week, and to be perfectly honest, I don't expect us to win. But I expect the kids to be competitive and to play their hearts out. And they will - I have no doubt about that after these first three games.

The rest of the season should be interesting though. Utah State will be a tough game, but it's winnable. UNLV, AF, NM, and CSU are all winnable as well. And so far, this team has shown that they want to win those close games more than the guys on the other side. Do that and we go 8-4. Maybe we go to a bowl. It's just as likely that we go 6-6 and miss out. But here's the thing, after last year I'll take it. All I ask for right now is consistent improvement from DC. On the offensive side of things, we're seeing that. On the other side there's still some proving to be done.

Sorry for the rant, but I'm tired of these "yeah, but" a-holes. We're 3-0 with a new QB, a young team, and a new OC. It's ok to be a little excited about that. Why do you want the Pokes to fail so badly?
 
I believe theman, was formerly called eastpopcornstate or something like that. Cowboys fans, he is a sheep in wools clothing. Not the hated sheep from the south, but the sheep who can't think for themselves in the land of Zion.

I'd be pissed too if my favorite team just got beat my our rivals by 50.

No I do not want them to fail. Believe me. I want nothing more than than the Pokes to become a national power. If Boise freakin state can do it, so can we. But I'd rather talk about the product on the field than sunshine pump a fairly bad product. I am happy that the playcalling and offense is steadily getting better. I am very upset about the defense that DC has destroyed in 2 short years. We had a great defense and I would rather lose every game 14-7 than lose 50-30, but that is just the style of football I prefer. But the way I see this $50 bet thing is I can't lose. I may lose $250 but atleast the pokes will be going to a bowl game, and if the pokes don't make it I gain $250 (assuming they pay up). I'll gladly pay 250 for the pokes to go bowling. If we are happy with mediocrity, then thats where we'll stay. I think we should strive to become a national power.

I take into consideration where the game is being played and if there is any revenge factor from the previous year. Does it make a little more sense now?
 
I could totally see us losing to CSU, that game is definitely not a gimme by any means. They're going to be WAAAY motivated to win after the embarrassment of last season, especially if it spoils us going to a bowl game.

In all honesty, I don't see why we shouldn't be happy we're 3-0 at this point, even if it wasn't pretty. Sure beats being 2-1, 1-2, or 0-3 (o hai Lobos)!

I know our schedule is easier than it was last season, but we're still already tied for the number of wins, at least. I'm definitely not expecting a bowl game, but after being a Cowboys fan for a while now, I've learned to be cautious with expectations in general and be happy for every single win. With how young this team is, I'd say there's reason for a lot of optimism!

I've seen on several different threads where 'theman' has brought up that we only beat BG, who only won 2 games team last season, by 1. Who the hell cares how many games they won last year? Same with Weber State, or Texas St., or anybody else on the schedule. It's this season not last season, new players, new coaches, more experience, less experience, whatever. In these types of situations you really can't go on what a team did the previous season.

I'm fairly certain that most of us Cowboy fans weren't realistically expecting to go bowling this season, especially once we found out that we would have to be going to battle every Saturday with a true freshman QB,not to mention a whole slew of other underclassmen at various positions.
I like most of the rest of us would love to see the Pokes squeeze out 7 wins and make a bowl game this season, but I'm realistic. Hell, in my pipedream the Pokes would win out and play for the BCS championship this season. But realistically I'm expecting 4-6 wins and hoping for improved play on both sides of the ball and to be competitive in every game.

But now that we are 3-0, theres a lot of sunshine pumpers here, I figured I'd get a few more than 1 who believes we can finish the 3-0 start with a bowl game. You expect 4-6 wins after our 3-0 start? That means we finish 1-8 to 3-6. Not good. I agree with you, but definitely not what I expected to hear from the people here.
 
We will NOT, repeat NOT finish 3-6. 3-9 maybe buy NOT 3-6. I could be wrong. We may choose to not play three games.

Not sure why I would change the way I feel about the Pokes season because they're where I thought they'd be at at this point in the season. I think most people in Wyonation expected the Cowboys to be 3-0 at this point in the season and I think a lot of them, including myself, feel they could be 5-1 after the UNLV game. But the schedule gets a lot harder after Vegas with a trip to SDSU, home against TCU, then trips to AFA, and Boise and ending the season at CSU.

please, please let me explain. GBPOKE said he expects us to finish the year with 4-6 wins. WE ALREADY HAVE 3 WINS. Which means, that he thinks WE WILL FINISH THE SEASON BETWEEN 1-8 AND 3-6.

I REPEAT, GBPOKE THINKS WE WILL FINISH THE SEASON 1-8 TO 3-6 in order to end up with 4-6 wins.

This is not rocket science. It's 2nd grade math.

Please read the Thread Topic again!!
