Could someone break Marcus Harris records at UW?

I know it sounds impossible because of how prolific he was and how early he played, but it looks like it might happen. It would take a combination of good luck, but it just might happen.

1. We need to keep our offense in tact for the next four years.
2. We need to avoid bad injuries.
3. We have to hope the player I'm referring to continues to progress.

Still, it looks to me like Tanner Gentry has what it takes.

Too much depth. We only lose Herron and Darden this year and have so much coming back. The depth wasn't this good when Marcus was playing.

That and the 1,400 yard average over the next three years. ;)

One thing is for sure, Gentry doesn't look like a true freshman and will only get better.

Go Pokes!!

Well, records are meant to be broken. I'm sure that people where asking the same thing about breaking Ryan Yarboroughs record, then Marcus Harris did it.But, that would be a monumental task for anybody at least right now the way this offense is and how good Brett Smith is. He spreads the ball around so much and is so good at finding the open guy and getting him the ball, rarely does he lock onto one specific receiver.

This is by no means a slight at Tanner Gentry, but this is ridiculous. Let's see him, or anyone come within 50% of the record in 2 years of playing before we make crazy statements like this.

Considering the ridiculous amount of plays being run by the offense, its not impossible. But I think it would take someone near Marcus' ability. The Pokes have some good WRs, but not even Herron comes close to Harris' overall ability. 1400+ yards is a territory only elite talents arrive at, regardless of system. No Wyoming WR has reached the 1100 yards Bouknight had since 2005. Hell, since then? Nobody even over 800 yards. Then we're talking about averaging 1400 yards over 3 years? Yeah, you'll need someone of Marcus Harris' caliber of talent.

We spread the ball around to much in this system. I like our receivers, Herron, Rufran, Claiborne & Gentry are legit receivers. Are they on the same level as Yarborough, Harris, & Bouknight? I don't think so, Rufran may have a chance of catching Bouknight in receiving td's though. Biggest issue to challenging those three spreading around the ball.

You guys are probably right. It would be extremely difficult to break those records with our depth at wide receiver. Still, I haven't witnessed a Wyoming freshman wide receiver that looked this good ever.

The problem with Marcus numbers is the lack of stats he put up his freshman season. That's why I think Tanner has a shot.

Does Bouknight have some record for receiving TDs that Rufran is chasing him in?

I think Bouknight has 28 tds (might be wrong on that), so Rufran has 13 in his Junior year (again, might be off). He has an outside chance of getting close, would have to continue his pace to get there. He is having a monster year so far. In comparison Robert Herron has 13 but this is his last year. I would think Rufran would end up number 4 for all time receiving tds.

Ryan Yarborough still holds some of the receiving records. Most yards per reception. Most TD's in a single season and most TD's in a career receiving.

Yes,Yarborough has like 42 career TDs and I think he had 16 as a senior. Harris finished with like 36 or 38. something like that.

Agree with this...as long as CDC has his system in place with multiple playmakers...Wyoming will not have a receiver that can break that record. OTOH, given the number of yards that Brett throws, the receiving corps as a whole will break all Wyoming records....if they kept such records....

I doubt anyone is going to break is record anytime soon. One of the goals of our offense is you can't double team a reciever. A receiver or two might be prefered by the quarter back from time to time, but when it it comes to the throwing game, the blitz can come from anywhere and Brett is pretty good at identifying that.

Obviously, when there is very little pressure, you see Brett get a bit greedy and try to go for the home run. I haven't see this work as much as it did last year for him. He seems to overthrow on these routes pretty frequently (maybe its just my memory too).

Rufran seems to be his favorite right now. Herron is too. The defenses know that if you let Herron get the ball your not going to catch him. Rufran gets open and is a good possession receiver.

The ball gets spread around way too much to break records - unless we start averaging 800+ yards a game in offense.

Yarbourgh and Harris, man were they fun to watch when I was in school.....Receiver U, and it's coming back!!!!!

Marcus Harris records at Wyoming are almost what Jerry Rice's are in the NFL. Marcus didn't redshirt and only had a few catches... I'd bet Tanner already has more his freshman year.

That said... Marcus finished as the NCAA's all-time leading receive and was a top 10 Heisman candidate. Jovon Bouknight was Wyoming's entire offense for his junior and senior season and was still quite a ways away from Marcus' receptions and yardage record.

Marcus won the Biletnikoff... Big time.

I do believe Yarborough still owns the TD record.
