So your saying the Montana team from a year ago that couldn't beat Wyoming is that different today? It only took one year for them to change that much?

Umm...the whole point of my post is what changed in a year at Montana.

Would I rather have Stitt than Bohl though? Right now I would say no. Who knows though in a couple years. Guess we will see how things turn out. I'm sure if Bohl doesn't do well for some reason and Stitt does do well at Montana then he will be the next coach here. I have a feeling Bohl will be just fine though.

I don't see any circumstances where we would see Stitt here (I believe he will either retire at Montana or take a 'bigger' job if he has relatively instant success). I like Bohl and am happy with the hire. Would I have rather we hired Stitt? Yes, I said that two years ago because he finds ways to win at an athletic talent disadvantage which is a must at Wyoming (Bohl has proven the same but not to the level of Stitt in my opinion).

I like Stitt, but did not care for his aggressive play-calling the first half. Good win for Montana.

Stitt calls a football game like a teenager playing Madden.. and I love it. That's what sets him a part from his peers.. he's not afraid to make calls that would get him fired in many places.

Every game will be like that. It is a fun style of football to watch that is for sure. Defense will take a step back.

We are the two in agreement, You might have taken that post the wrong way I was asking the same thing.

This is exactly why I was behind Stitt as the hire at Wyoming after DC was fired. (Although everyone here basically told me I was off my rocker)

I will say that I like the Bohl hire but what I have seen Stitt do over the years with far inferior talent is downright incredible. Mines often had the size and speed of a high school team yet set numerous D2 records on the offensive side of the ball. MInes endured 50 years of losing badly before Stitt arrived.

Think about this. Stitt inherited a power running team at Montana which is far from the type of team you would want to run his offense. In game 1, Stitt knocks off the 4 time defending National Champs that returns one of the best QBs in the country. Could Wyoming have beat NDSU last year? I would say unlikely.

This post is not a knock on Bohl as I am excited for the future of the program. But Stitt is one of the best coaching minds in the country and has been for years even if he was completely unnoticed by the general public. BTW, Stitt is not a Joe Glenn type of a coach either. There are many former Mines players that do not care for Stitt at all but they all do respect him as a coach and what he helped achieve.

Stitt won consistently in Golden...with a bunch of engineering geeks & nerds. I am not surprised he won (so far) in Montana with those thug FBS drop down athletes they attract.

What will be interesting is to see how Greg Brandon does in Golden!

I agree! I personally like Brandon but taking over at Mines will be some serious culture shock for a guy that has spent a lot of years in FBS football. Not only is the athletic talent generally weak, but the players do not and could not possibly have close to the same committment to football as Brandon is accustomed to. There is a big difference from a communications degree at Bowling Green to an engineering degree at one of the toughest engineering schools in the country. I suspect that Mines will become a middle of the pack RMAC team but hope I am wrong.

In case you guys are wondering about my well being, my liver swelling has gone down, still can't really talk.

Went over to eGriz to see the reaction. Kinda surprised....mix of jubilation (to be expected) and criticism? Stitt knocked off a 4-time national champ in his debut. UM tore that defense up, but still looked like they have tons of room to grow. That's terrifying if you have to face this Grizzlies team. They beat the best FCS can offer and still looked like they're learning the ropes. I'm glad Bohl can co. played UM last year and not this year.

Outcome would have been the same IMO.

Let's be honest here. NDSU los that game with atrocious play calling late. After Montana kicked that field goal putting them down 4, NDSU should've ran the ball, milked the clock and made Montana use their timeouts. But they threw the ball on 2nd and 3rd down giving Montana free timeouts. If Bohl was at NDSU, they would've won that game. Not a knock against Montana, but NDSU gave that game away.

yes, I think Bohl would have won that game. Better clock management, and strong ability to get his teams to finish out close games well.

Bohl won 3 straight FCS titles, with his recruits winning a 4th the next year, after he came here. Never been done in FCS (or 1AA back in the day). I would rank that higher than Stitt getting Mines to the playoffs on a regular basis. I like Stitt quite a bit, but lets see him win multiple championships before ranking him ahead of Bohl - Stitt now has the recruiting base to prove his abilities.
