Conference stats for 1st 5 games

I don't usually look at these things, but there some rather interesting numbers to examine

First, we've only made 24 3's in 5 games. Grabau is 3-18 from 3 and only 22 percent overall from the field. However, he is a perfect 33-33 from the line!

Josh Adams is averaging more rebounds per game than Cooke. Cooke is averaging less than 4 rebounds per game.

Herndon and Mcmanaman have all of our bench points - which is only 19. 19 bench points in 5 games is hard to believe. One good scorer off the bench could do that in 1 game!

So we have a few areas that need work, as all teams do. I would say 4-1 is pretty good at this juncture. However, it's easy to see where teams are going to come at us. Also, it's pretty hard for us to take advantage of the home elevation when our bench is so thin. I think low scoring or slow tempo games are here to stay.

Cooke's minutes are down aren't they?

Seems so. I just assume he's not in at the end because of his foul shooting. But Hankerson's foul shooting is about as equally awful so there must be more to it.

Shyatt has been letting Herndon play more of the game when he takes Cooke out. Herndon seems to play close to half of the game now with Cooke playing the other half.

Cooke is more physical and a better defender, but Herndon is the better shot and needs the playing time for next year.

Talking about "needing playing time for next year" is incredibly dumb when we are in first place in the mwc THIS YEAR.
Now is not the time for future development. Now is the time for winning with what we have.

I don't know beav, i think its in our best interest for Barnes and Herndon to play 35 minutes a game. Since nance is only with us for a handful of games more, we need to prepare for life without him.

This is the stupidest idea. The best way to prepare for the future is to win now!! This isn't the nba, cutting players and tanking gets you no where. Winning and building a tradition is the best way to set yourself up for future success.

Well then Adams will be the only senior next year so we better prepare for how to replace him in the future so we might as well start all guards right now too. Just so one of them is ready to take over for Josh.

So, keep Herndon out and Cooke in, never sub players and make sure they get experience that will be invaluable down the road, because that would hurt our chances for winning?

Ok, whatever you say Beav...

Herndon is playing now because that gives us the best chance to win today, not tomorrow.

We are a ranked team, first place in the MWC, no one in their right mind would start playing for next year in that situation.
