Speaking of BYU, this whole mess for us got started by the Black 14 mess. Had that not happened, Wyoming coulda been where Boise State is now.

It’s really early to think or drink so I will give it a try:
1 - for the 4 of 5 Wyoming residents that don’t hunt something to do from September to November that is as close to high level sports as a person can get without trying to score tickets in Denver for an NFL game.
2 - because 1 or more people in Chicago and elsewhere might get to see a team called Wyoming even if they have no idea where Wyoming is geographically.
3 - NIU won a lot of games in 2013 playing in the Orange Bowl just like Wyoming played LSU in 1968 in the Sugar Bowl.
4 - there are at least 100+ TV sets that will not be watching religiously affiliated money making organizations who pay players the best money below the NFL.
5 - grandparents like seeing their children’s children all grown up playing sports.
6 - good question Why?

And…the double standard gets erased with big $$$ when it comes to athletics within the organization.
BYU has never really had to account for the fact they represent the highly racist name “Brigham Young” who implemented official church doctrine that African ancestry was the “seed of Cain” to say a class of people were unworthy of being in the priesthood. In 1978 leader Spencer Kimball said God sent a revelation which reversed this doctrine.
For Wyoming, the actions of a single person named Lloyd Eaton in this situation are the only ones that continue to be foisted upon Wyoming like a scarlet letter that cannot be removed.

yes, it's just amazing how BYU and Utah once our rivals are top 10 programs and Wyoming is in some sort of perpetual regression. I don't really see the Black 14 incident or Lloyd Eaton as factors. Throughout most of the 80's and 90's (after Eaton was long gone) Wyoming was competitive with those two Utah schools.

Here we go again.
No one is moving for less money, a concept that most PAC 0-for-12 fans still can't grasp. I hope Gloria has a good idea of who from the MAC or C-USA she is going to have ready on speed dial.

I knew JMU had some heavy donors but MIAMI is saying they have the same private bankroll to move to the AAC. AAC trying to position itself to kick out dead weight in 2030

I don't think so; we climbed out of that. This era of futility all stems from losing the WAC Championship game in '96 and not getting a bowl.
That is the tipping point that I always come back to....that was a legitimately good Wyoming team. It was the mask off moment where it was obvious that just being good at football wasn't good enough.
We were screwed for sure. I love love to hear if there was a back story as to why it happened.
Had Nebraska not screwed up in that 1996 Big 12 Championship game vs. Texas, Wyoming would've gotten a bowl invitation regardless of the end result of the 1996 WAC Championship game.
Had Nebraska won, BYU would have gone to the Fiesta Bowl vs. Penn State probably, Nebraska would be in the Sugar Bowl (national title game) vs. Florida State. Wyoming regardless would've been in either the Holiday Bowl or the Cotton Bowl.
The WAC had a contract with both Holiday and Cotton bowls at the time that required at least one of them take a WAC team. So if the WAC Champions ended up in one of the Bowl Alliance bowls, one of the two (Holiday or Cotton) had to take the WAC Runner-up whether they liked it or not. BTW, the Cotton had first choice.
