Conference realignment - good Schmoldt column

I was just reading threads on ponyfans.com. There are a few new threads from today 8-29 that have articles about conference changes.
I think one was out of Hawaii. One or two were articles by Jay Drew.
It seems that the WAC's idea was to get some teams like UNLV, SDSU and UTEP to the WAC and make a 12 team conference.
I hear that UTEP is really happy being in C-USA and that just may be true because if we believe the article I read it was C-USA that tipped off the MWC about what was going on.

I'm terrible at links so if y'all want maybe you can check out ponyfans threads for some of the info.

It seems that BYU is still very proactive on exiting the MWC according to articles I've read.

This is a fascinating article in that it recalled things in ways that I don't remember them at all. I thought at the time that the MWC was actually in better shape than the Big Leftovers. Everybody was running for cover and I think that there was actually a realistic chance at a MWC-BL merger. Then again, some of the events that have happened since have left me with the impression that the MWC isn't as sturdy as I once thought it was. But really, the MWC rebounded beautifully, I think, and however it ends up I don't think there is a safer non-AQ place to be.

Alysa, just about everything I hear from El Paso (I'm a Houston alum, so I keep on top of C*USA) is that UTEP has no interest in leaving the C*USA for the WAC. I just don't think that was really in the cards. They're really only close to one WAC school (who they play annually anyway) and the rest are further away than their Texas brethren in the C*USA west. Now, if invited to the MWC with UNM, AFA, and so on with the better TV contract, I think that they would leap at that opportunity. But not the WAC. They left behind a better WAC that was preparing to invite them a week or two ago.

Yes, I keep up with C-USA too because I grew up an SMU fan. I pull for the Texas teams in a certain order and a few other teams that I'm a fan of like Wyoming.
Most of the Mustangs that I know want nothing to do with BYU, can't stand 'em. One reason is because they see BYU as having "dumped" on SMU, UTEP, Rice in the past.
I don't want any Texas team getting involved with the WAC. I don't want Wyoming going there either.
A lot of SMOO fans don't like Colorado State and so on.

SMOO fans have heard for a while about how UTEP is happy in C-USA.
It is popularly believed by many SMU fans that TCU doesn't want any Texas team being invited to the MWC.

I used to get some good info from a friend who learned things from Texas State. That's why I knew years ago about the Bobcats wanting to go FBS before it was made public.

I was told years ago that there was interest in making a conference and calling it The Southwest Conference because that name is still available.

It's a wild time. I hate the idea of four 16 team superconferences that seems to still be predicted.

I predict there's going to be 6 Superconferences with only one having 14 members. The other 5 will have 16.

ACC
SEC
Big 10
PAC-16
C-USA (only became of basketball and because the Big East will be dead football-wise)
MWC with 14 members (BYU will stay and we add Houston now and add the Kansas schools later)

Three conference will be killed off or weaken to the point that the Sun Belt would bbe stronger
Big East
Big 12 (its days are numbered - everyone here in Oklahoma agree)
WAC
