Cole Huff seeking release from Nevada

I know its hard to transfer within conference but just want to point out he's a position of need, has a redshirt year, averaged 12.4 and 5.4, and was on the same AAU team as Jeremy Lieberman.

He obviously won't end up at another MWC school, but on a separate topic this is a really crappy transfer IMO.

Unless David Carter is just a complete asshole (which does not appear to be the case at all), I don't get this transfer. He received a ton of minutes as an underclassman and would have been the focal point of the team moving forward.

More to the point, Huff's group (family or otherwise) made a big deal out of the situation a couple of years ago when SDSU pulled their offer after he had been verbally committed to SDSU for about 8 months. Seems hypocritical to complain about SDSU pulling the rug out from under him because they felt they could sign someone better and then turning around and doing the same thing to Nevada.

I obviously have no love for Nevada basketball, they talk way more trash than their play supports, but this is why you see more coaches turning away from the concept of developing talent and trying to bring in more transfers and 5th year players. Why develop talent if they are going to jump to a bigger conference at the first opportunity?

Other MWC transfer news:

UNM: looks like Nick Banyard and Tim Myles are leaving UNM. Neither played much.

SDSU: James Johnson, a big man who didn't play, will graduate and leave SDSU with immediate eligibility at a new school

CSU: None yet, but they are oversigned by two. Expect some departures soon.

USU: Jordan Stone, Danny Berger, Marcel Davis, and Kyle Davis have all left the program. K. Davis was a starter.

SJSU: DJ Brown will graduate and leave a year early.

I expect more news out of Nevada and UNLV in addition to CSU.

News from CSU, Chane Behanan arrested again for marijauana possession in Louisville. Don't think he will ever play for them.

Interesting on Kyle Davis, He was only a sophomore and will be leaving for his third school already. Transferred from Southern Utah to USU

USU is just bleeding players. Some to graduation, yes, but just as many, if not more to transfer. Last count they have about 4-5 players returning for next year. Total.

When I was going to school in Logan, bball and Stew ran that town. NCAA appearances were a given. When Gary Andersen came the thunder was kind of stolen from Stew. It has now fully shifted to football. I think Stew has lost control of the program and many people are calling for his job. I never thought that would happen, but he has become stale. Their team doesn't even have enough players to fill a team right now. Crazy stuff. Something isnt right in L-town.

I think it's a little bit overblown to be honest. Other than Kyle Davis, the other players that left were not going to be contributors in the MWC. They only have 2-3 scholarships left to fill which is about the same as us.

They will have a large class coming in and a lot of new faces, but USU has always had higher turnover than most schools due to a combination of factors. First, Morrill tends to run off guys that aren't producing. Second, they have traditionally signed a lot of JC's which only have two years to start with. Third, due to location they recruit LDS fairly heavily so they have to deal with missions. Looking at next year they have a few HS players coming in, a couple of JUCO's, and a returned missionary (Collette).

USU has faltered a little over the last 3 years, but USU fans that want to get rid of Morrill remind me of CSU fans that wanted to get rid of Lubick. The CSU fans got their wish and went 20-41 over the next 5 years including 4 border war losses (the same number Lubick had in 15 years). I think they are ok now with McElwain, but if given a little more time I think Lubick would have done better than Fairchild and then been able to retire in a dignified fashion. If USU fires Morrill now, they may find a better coach, but it will be tough.

The coach that is in trouble in the MWC is Carter. 3 losing seasons in the last 4 years after his two predecessors (Johnson and Fox) had tremendouse success in Reno. Now losing Huff? I think Carter is dead coach walking next year. It will be interesting to see if he loses the team if they start to struggle knowing he is a lame duck.

Nevada started conference play on fire this year. A lot of that was Burton, but Carter for sure is safe for now. Next year will be the measuring stick. If he can compete without Burton it will show that he's the man for the job. If not he won't be around after 2015.
