Hahaha that bugs the hell outta me. They get there so quick, then just slow down and stop...and wait....and then finally snap it.

In a no huddle offense and in particularly a spread zone offense the reason the line sprints up there and looks is because they have to identify the Mike or "Zero Target" LB and identify who they need to block in the zone scheme. Problem is the targeted blocker often changes when the defense reacts to offensive shifts or if they show blitz. What many people don't realize is that the unaccounted defender is actually the responsibility of the QB. They intentionally leave one defender unblocked so that the QB can hold them with his "Read" Generally it is the outside defender (the DE or Will LB). So there is a reason for what they do.

Well said.

I'm sure that your reason for why they do this is correct, but it does take a little bit of the pizazz out of the fastest team in the country concept, if they all look over at the sidelines for a while before they snap the ball. With DC calling the plays there will be nothing fast about our offense. He will need to be very deliberate about the plays he calls, especially if we truly will have 3 OC's this year. I can't imagine the plays being so predetermined that the 3 of them will all sign off on the plan as the game progresses. Having said that, I will love to see them sprint to the line and let Brett wing it on occasion to keep the defenses honest. Anything that resembles Oregon's offense even a little will be fun to watch.

Actually when DC was at Mizzou he scripted the entire game before it and they rarely deviated from the plan. With this in mind they won't have to decide on plays just signal them into the offense, so it should be much faster and not hae us staring at the sideline like all of us hate.

That is correct. He talked about that in his interview. He has a list of 1st, 2nd, 3rd down plays and he just goes down the list. They haven't done that since they have been at Wyoming. It will be a different offense than years past. Just hope it is effective.

All of the plays were scripted this year too. They would go into a game with 15-30 plays and they would not deviate from them.

That is true, but from what I understand is that instead of the first 15-30 plays being scripted, or the first half roughly that this season it will be almost entirely scripted.

Probably why our second halves sucked. Team would adjust to what we were doing and we refused to alter our plays.

You are misunderstanding me....they would have 15-30 plays for the entire game! They had a script play book for each week and those are the only plays they would run. They would not run anything that they didn't practice in the script workout the week of the game.

Got ya, my bad on the misunderstanding, but from what I have heard is that is one of the points of emphasis this year is to not only get to the line fast, but also get the play off faster as well.

I think DC has always limited this team in a way. He never though he had the team that he wanted. He never had a Missouri type offense. Instead of running 64 plays as he did at Mizzou, he runs 30 at tops.
To me it seems as if he wants us to be that team but doesn't trust he has the players for it.
I think maybe he is realizing that either A-he does have the athletes on offense this season or B-it's make or break so I better do something quick.

I honestly think with Brett Smith and the RBs we have, and the WRs...the team can explode and can win lots of games.
Now J-Rod will come in and say we gotta improve our defense...yeah I know. But at a certain point teams won't be able to keep up. Like I said all last season...if we win 45-31, yeah it sucks we gave up 31 points, but we still WIN.

From what's been reported about the O-Line's big struggles this spring, assuming Smith and the receiving corps are enough is inaccurate. Smith won't be very good if he's constantly getting hit like he was last year. They won't be scoring a ton every game. This offense is not the juggernaut force you think it is....there are lots of teams who had no problem dominating Smith and co. last season.....and it was all because of the battle in the trenches, an issue you continue to ignore. :P :brick:

Ha Ha....... I like this philosophy....outscore them and it doesn't matter what your defense does! I have always been a proponent of the "fast break on grass" thinking! It makes the game better to watch, play and coach! "Spread em, shred em, and outscore them!"

Haha if it's not one thing it's another huh J-Rod?
LOL No team can go 4-8 simply because of one or two problems.....but the primary issues are up front.....arguably the most important positions in football.

I've been a fan of the Carolina Panthers ever since I was young.....and if there is anything I've learned in the last two seasons from them: you can have an all-world talent at QB all you like.....if the line can't block, the offense will be shit.

Beav, you know I'm not a negative nancy, but the problem is we need to get better on defense - stopping the run, tackling, pressuring the QB, and stopping the long pass play. If we don't do that, the time of possession will be so lop-sided in the opponents favor that we won't have the TOP to utilize our offense & put points on the board. Our defense needs to get better - a lot better.

AND we need a much better Offensive Line.

LOL the problem with that sentance is that you actually think Cam Newton is an all world talent. Or even a mediocre starting NFL qb hahaha ;)

Hahaha Cam has limitless potential.....there is simply no denying that. He is an all-world talent in every way.......he needs a much better supporting cast though....especially on defense.

You dont think Cam Newton is an all world talent? The Guy is a phenomenal Qb. J rod is right, a Guy like that needs talent around him to utilize those skills. A good defense certainly helps also. Wyoming will only go as far as the defense can take us. You can't spot an FCS team like Cal poly a 14 point lead on 4 plays and give up 300+ rushing yards. That was a joke. I know Brett was out, but still. If Jason Thompson had his red shirt pulled earlier we win Those games. I actually liked the tempo when Thompson was playing Qb. Nothing against Brett, I love the way he plays, but he has to let his teammates do their job, he cannot continue to take unnecessary shots when you other athletes better suited to take that punishment.
