There was a thread started the other day discussing the chances Nance and Adams have any post season accolades. I'm wondering what you guys think about the coach of the year race. It has to be a great recruiting tool, and even though coaches dismiss it I can guarantee that they'll want to win it.
My thoughts:
Morrill has to be a candidate. Regardless of their season, the media respects him and he's retiring. He's not the best coach this year, but because of his career coming to an end his name is bound to come up.
In terms of coaches who have exceeded expectations, shyatt and Neal (new mex) have to be mentioned. We were picked 6th preseason, look where we're at currently. New Mexico lost their top 3 from last season, top 4 when Cullen Neal got hurt. Yet they're still competing.
Of course you always have to consider the coach of the regular season champs. We look like front runners along with Fisher, so add him to the list.
Thoughts?
