Coach Joe...quest for 20 wins.

The Cowgirls are having an amazing season right now, lookin like they might win their first MWC season championship and be going dancing, and at very worst could be making another deep run in the NIT.

But even more impressive, in year 10 of Coach Joe Legerski at UW he has a total of 191 wins...averaging out to 19.1 wins per season, with a good chance at getting to 200 wins by the end of the year.
With 6 games left, they have a chance at all 6, with their biggest tests being saturday at Fresno, and then Wednesday at home against SDSU, plus the MWC Tourney, and whatever post season they make.
They have a real chance at winning 9 more games, I think it would be sweet if Coach Joe got to an average of 20 wins per season through 10 seasons.

Exciting stuff!
3 women's teams I'm watching are winning.
Wyoming is 2nd in conference, Princeton is 1st and SMU is 1st.
I wonder if any of the 3 will meet somehow this season.

Who knows? Could very well happen. I know the cowgirls wanna be in the Big Dance, but I think a big NIT run might do wonders for this team. They will probably get home games all the way through the finals if they keep playing like this but end up not making the Big Dance especially because of the track record with the WNIT in the AA.

The cowgirls are starting 3 sophomores 1 junior and 1 senior, what ever they end up with will end up being good for the team for next season as well.
I think a MWC Championship could be coming to Laramie this spring. Hopefully a couple! But the girls are definintely looking to get one

Congratulations to Joe and all the Cowgirls on what has already been a fantastic season! Keep it going!

Why would anyone want the NIT over the NCAA tournament? One and done in NCAA tournament is better than winning 4 home games in the NIT.

Players get experience against opponents that are also good enough to make the NIT. Would not be the same, of course, if you made it into, say, the sweet 16. Then the NCAA would be better.

Last time the Cowgirls won the NIT, Winning the NIT is better than 1 and done in the NCAA.

Some people will disagree on 1st round loss to winning the NIT, Some go as far as state that they would rather get blown up by 50 points in the 1st round than win the NIT. I can't understand that mentality at all, Do you really think teams that get into the NIT are just like oh well it's just the NIT.

Do you really think when the Cowgirls packed the AA for the NIT run the fans were just like w/e it's only the NIT. Amazing people even have the opinion that one and done is better than a Tournament Championship in any tournament.

I would still rather prefer the NCAA over NIT. I'd rather our team have a legit shot at a "true" NC than the second rate Championship. I'm not saying that the NIT wasn't great for our program, but seriously, The Lady Vols didn't start winning NC's by wanting to go to the NIT.
Seriously, this argument is like saying that after an undefeated season and top ten placing in football that the fans would prefer Wyoming to play in the Vegas bowl instead of a BCS bowl.
The prestige alone makes the difference.

yes and no....we know we can get hot and make a run and perhaps host them all again. Not a big Womens bball fan, but they are fun to track. it'll be sad if the course continues and more fans come out for them than the guys wow that's something.

I like the NIT format and yes NCAA is good and all, but I'd rather stay competitive in the NIT than a one and done format in the NCAA's that's just me. Afterall I remember the guys in 86 making the run to MSG to the final game.

Keep up the good work and let's hope for a wonderful MWC tourney and post season for both squads

We'll agree to disagree and that is a bad example imo I'll cheer the Men or Womens team on regardless what tournament they are in but I'd rather win a small one than get humiliated in a big one in the first round. Personal preference I guess.

LOL@ anyone ever thinking anyone except a couple teams in Women's Basketball have a shot at the National Title

AGREED! It's worse than college football....Honestly it is. Our cowgirls are good and are receiving Top 25 votes but there is not way that we could win it all. As good as Chandra Sewell is, she is nothing compared to the beasts at UCONN, Stanford, Baylor, and Notre Dame.

I want the girls to get a MWC Championship at the very least though. Maybe a Sweet 16 run in the Big Dance would be a huge boost for the program. But the difference between mens and womens in this area of the country, in mens, you have a building Wyo program, a solid AFA program, a solid CU team, a very good CSU team, and a decent DU team all competing for the recruits. And in womens there is only us and CU competing for recruits, so it's not like we need a big run to get the attention of the recruits in the area, we already have them.

I feel like a Sweet 16, MWC titles, and WNIT Championships are the very peak of this program.

The last part of your quote explains why Wyoming is where it is. And this is the same fucking thought process that Tom Burman had when he said, "We are who we are." And every one of you on here got pissed off. Yet, here you all are saying the same stupid thing.
This program can get better. NIT championships are only going to get you so far. So how about move forward. If we have the opportunity to be better, lets do it.
You want another example. Every one of you on here are pissed because Wyo has fallen out of the Big Dance talk in Mens basketball... But why? Why are we so pissed now that we won't be making the NCAA, when we can go and compete a whole lot better and maybe win a few more games in the NIT or CBI?

You have to understand that there is a difference between the womens and mens big dance. The way womens college hoops is, is there are only a few teams that have a chance at the title. You don't ever see a Butler or VCU going to the Final 4. It is the same story over and over for womens hoops. That is why I said a Sweet 16 is probably the peak for the womens. They can get there sure, but then they are going to be playing a Brittny Griner led Baylor or a Maya Moore led UCONN.

You realize that is exactly what was said said when Wooden and UCLA were winning it over and over and over and over again. But, underdogs rallied. Look at where the tourney is now.

Someone out west has to make a name for them selves. So why not Wyoming. I don't think we've peaked. We have gradually been getting better year after year. Last year, these girls were extremely young. Most of them will have three more years. Plus we have Sean Dents daughter coming in, and out of what I've heard she is also legit. This team can and probably will make noise in the NCAA tourney.

I have rethought this whole thing, and if this team is capable of the Sweet 16 this season, then why not Final 4 when the 3 sophomores are all seniors? Next year someone will need to step up and replace Sickles, but even more important the year after someone will have to step up to replace Chandra Sewell.
But right now, they gotta worry about beating Fresno State tomorrow. If they don't win that, they gotta hope someone else knocks off sdsu.

Well played Kansas Poke, and damned straight.
We dont want or need to be a big fish in a little pond, we cant settle for "we are who we are"
Our wrestling team is always among the best in the nation and recruits nationally elite prep talent.. why not our wBB team.

Chaundra is a senior this year. Will have to replace Sickles and Sewell up front next year (and Freeze off the bench, but her minutes are limited). Lewis will step right in at the 4 as part of a small line-up that I foresee Legerski going to next year. Not sure who starts at the 5. Boehme is probably the most likely choice.

I hestitated to post on this subject, but what the heck. I completely agree about there only being a handful of teams that have any hope of winning the women's championship (UCONN, Stanford, Notre Dame, Baylor right now...UNC, Duke, Tennessee years past). They consistently get home court advantages based on who they are...seems that every other year UConn is hosting a regional.
Around these parts, the UWGB women are easily the best mid-major program in womens college basketball, usually are ranked or receiving votes. They play great defense, shoot the ball very well, and play a fun style of basketball. They own the state of Wisconsin in women's basketball and they've been a mid-major power for the last 12-15 years, however they've never been able to do any better than getting to the Sweet 16 because they usually have to play one of the power teams on their home floor. That is their "glass ceiling" so to speak, not sure if they can do any better than that. I think the same goes for Wyoming, don't know if they can do much better than hoping to get to the Sweet 16. Until there is a true "nuetral floor" in women's basketball the same power teams are going to consistently make it to the Final 4 in women's basketball.
