Coach Joe and womens hoops

I don't really think that Legerski should be fired, but I do find the fact that he gets little to no heat from the locals or the folks on the message boards kind of surprising. I just think that as a coach he is only ok, but not great. And just because he is the most successful HC at the University at the moment isn't enough to convince me that he is anything more than ok. It took an awful lot to convince me to even care about the girls team in the first place, and I did enjoy it for a while, but after 5+ years of going no farther than the WNIT, and a bunch of locals and even students even preferring our WNIT mediocrity over NCAA tournament appearances, I had had enough. I just don't care about our girls program anymore, and probably won't as long as Legerski keeps the program where it is at.

I understand where you are coming from. But what if Legerski goes and win the MWC and the MWC Tourney this year?

It is very magnanimous of you to not advocate the firing of UW's most consistently winning coach.

And, of course, he gets very little heat because his teams win far more than they lose, and his athletes represent UW with grace on the court and with success in the classroom.

It's exactly what you should want and cheer for in your school's athletic teams.

The Cowgirls also beat Boise St. yesterday.
They won 55-48.
They are now 11-3 on the season and 2-1 in MWC play.

They should easily win their next 3 games. @SJSU, vs. AFA, and @Nevada.

With that 11th win, the girls just need 13 more wins this season to hit that 20 wins per season average for Joe.
I know this stat might not be that impressive to some, but I am tracking it because I think a 20 win season is a sign of a really good season. And averaging that is damn impressive.

I didn't watch or follow the cowgirls loss to SJSU, but I'm curious to ask someone who did, how the girls effort was? I'll be the first to admit I haven't followed the girls all that closely since I left Laramie, went to Vegas last march and watched the whole tournament. My thought was that the cowgirls played like they just expected to win, but didn't expend very much effort, which is what seems to happen every time they get to the MWC tourney. They play great all year, run roughshod over teams, get to the tournament and just seem to melt away. Almost like they never have that edge that you see underdog teams have, where an underdog knows they will have to play their best game to win, whereas the girls seem to come out lackadaisical expecting that if they play like they always play, things will take care of themselves, but don't seem to have an edge to them.

Reminds me very very much of my local high school girls team, that from 2006-12 was one of the best in the state. Our coach often had to reign the girls in to keep the score from getting too out of control. Many games they barely had to give an effort to win, so as time wore on, they kinda developed this attitude that they were just flat better than everyone else and that they would win no matter what. They took either the number 1,2, or 3 seed into the state tournament every single year, but not once did they win the tournament. On a couple occasions they lost to the 7th or 8th seed simply because of their attitude and effort. They'd go into the game expecting to walk all over the opponent, while the underdog would come out and scrap and play for all they were worth, and our girls wouldn't hardly know what hit them. Obviously this is high school girls, so a totally different game and competition level, but what happened to them somewhat reminds me of what happens to the cowgirls sometimes. Not saying the cowgirls don't show up prepared to play, but I've definitely questioned the intensity level in some of their tournament games.

Just my opinion of course, but would like to hear some other opinions on the matter :)

Seriously? How?

Live and Die with Mileto. When she goes 4 for 15 (3 for 12 from 3) or similar - the team usually loses.

So we can expect Kayla to get her double-double, but the difference between W's and L's is Mileto you think?

I could see it.

I think you have a good point.

I posted how they are very good in MWC play every year but have a very BAD record in the MWC Tourney and have never even won 2 games in the MWC tourney under Coach Joe.

Everytime I go to a girls game, they just look like they are on a different level than the opponent, even the losses, if that makes sense.
Actually, kind of like you said, they just show up and expect the win, sometimes.

I do think so. Looking at the losses & wins this season (generally), when she is cold and tossing those rainbows up catching a bunch of air, the team struggles to find the W.

I never thought there'd be a chance the Cowgirls would be as good as last year.

They lost Sewell -- probably the greatest post player we've ever had -- and Sickles, and didn't replace them.

In other words, we lost our entire game under the basket and added nothing.

Cowgirls just blew out UNLV at home for win #15. 9 more to go for the average of 20.

The MWC for the girls is a total crapshoot right now.
CSU is 10-1 in first place. Then after that there is a bunch of teams with identical records.
CSU is in first, then there is 6 teams anywhere from 2.5 to 4 games back, including Wyo at 3.5 back.

The Cowgirls can still win the regular season MWC if they sweep CSU, and CSU loses one more game than Wyo from here on out.

But I think they will likely finish 2nd or 3rd.

They have to win a MWC title this season, they are just too talented not to, or it will be a let down.

Cowgirls blowout SJSU at home. Put up 59 in the first half and scored a total of 103.
Now the girls are on a 4 game win streak after hitting a bump in the road earlier.

The girls are now 17-6. Just 7 more wins to go for coach Joe to hit the average of 20 wins per season.

Sitting 3rd in the MWC right now.

Cowgirls with the win make them 20-10 on the season.
Makes Coach Joe 6-10 in the MWCT.

Can they beat the Sheep to get to 21 wins on the season, and be the first time ever Coach Joe has won 2 games in the MWCT?

4 more wins to go to get to 220 wins for Coach Joe in 11 seasons.

Do-able but not likely. Why? Same problem men have - lack of bench doesn't give the starters enough rest to continue strong in the second half. Plus, CSU didn't play today so are rested up. Should be at least a ten point game for CSU, but anything is possible, I suppose.

Of course anything is possible! That's why we completely destroyed them in Ft Collins, and then they returned the favor in Laramie.
I think on a neutral court cowgirls win.

We beat them in Laramie, not Foco.

CSU played today. Same as Cowgirls.

They don't play until Friday.

Oops. Beaver Man right, as ususal. My mistake. Not only reading the men's schedule, but doing it through the eyes of Mr. Jack Daniels. So both teams rested. Maybe the CSU Bims will hit the casinos Thur night to help out the Pokes.
