Christensen comments after 1 practice...

Junky, thanks for putting this up. I love finally getting info on the team from the horses mouth.

I wish he would go into more detail with the QB's "They had good completions and bad completions"? Gotta give me more then that ill take anything at this point other then this Shiz he keeps saying over and over.

But i do love how every article about practice starts off with "They were going to play in the War but mother nature said FU and they had to take it indoors"

Maybe I'm in the minority, but i have NO PROBLEM with DC closing practice. Good Lord. I listened to the Sports Zone this evening and heard whinner and whinner complaining about this. Honestly, do you really get any real information from the practices? No. Christiansen's job is to win games. And if he thinks that limiting the number of distractions for his players is the best way to do that, I'm fine with that. I can't believe how much some fans have turned into such crybabies. Get lives people. Spend the next couple of weeks doing your jobs, and let DC and his team do theirs.

I want the team to win games also, but I also try to "follow" the team and their progress. If I only cared about supporting a winning program then I'd jump on Boise's band wagon. I follow the Pokes, both the team and the players. I think most of us have lives, I see you're on this forum as well ; ) I believe part of DC's job is to inform the fans, not just win games. This is entertainment not just an athletic contest.

DC isn't the only D1 coach that closes practices to the media. Will Mushcamp is not allowing media at Florida Gators practices this year. I am sure the list is long of other teams/coaches that do the same.

Not saying I wouldn't like a little more info, but tons of media attention (even Wyoming media) can't be a good thing for two freshman QBs competing for a starting job. Scrimmages are open to the public and they will tell more about the team than any practice will.

cowboyz, the teams progress is measured by its game performance, not its progressions through practice. Sure football is entertainment, but i go to the movie to see the movie, not the rehersals. As was pointed out, the scrimmages are open to the public, and there is still plenty of media access otherwise. But I have been shocked and really disgusted by the reactions this week by some fans. What exactly is it that people think they will gain by watching early practice? And why does it matter? you've got a scrimmage in a week. I assure you that DC knows more about coaching football than all of us combined. Why do so many think its necessary to tell him how to do his job? This kind of crap is why Tiller left.

DC's job is to win games.. last year he closed practices and we finished 3-9.. I don't think closing the practices made much difference in the team's preparation for games. He's also made the quarterbacks unavailable for any media requests.. so we likely won't know anything about these two fellas for quite a while. The Wyoming media can't even get access to this team.. which makes it tough for fans from near and far to really get anything of substance to chew on. I wouldn't expect a lot of news on the progression of the team in fall camp until the scrimmages. :twocents:

Completely agree. The whining about it is really getting annoying especially from Schmolt. I trust DC knows what he is doing and isn't just being a dick. Remeber two years ago the media had access to a certain freshman QB and we all know how that turned out. I don't know what effect that had on his decision to not give access to the freshman QBs but am willing to bet he learned something there and doesn't want to create a similar situation.

I hear what you're saying, but I also believe DC has the right to run things the way he thinks is best for the team. With two green QB's, it is probably a good idea to keep them thinking about football and football only for a few weeks.

In regards to not gettign to know about these fellas for quite a while...again you're probably right in that we won't get to know much about them personally. But, with 4 scrimmages, the first being next Tuesday, we'll get to see them compete a number of times.

For the record, I would like all the info I can get my hands on. But also understand where DC is coming from.

Go Pokes!

DC should do what he thinks is good or best for the program. I don't mind closed practices as long as DC gives us some real opinions and thoughts on the practice. I'm talking about future practices of course because I'm sure he doesn't have a real feel for any of his new guys yet.
