Chris Tormey

Only $325,000!!!!!!!! FIRE Tormey and pay Breske $400,000!!!!!!!!!! ANYTHING!!!! PAY HIM!!!!!!!!!

Our defense is so fucking bad Savannah State could beat us!!!!!!!!!!! :brick:

This aint rocket science, people!!!!!!! We need better coaches and the only focking way is to up the money to pay them!!!!!!!
Haha okay.

If UW all of a sudden is capable of forking that kind of money over for a DC, someone needs a talking to. Cause the recruiting budget could use a major upgrade too.

Way to have an overreaction. You realize that we just faced one of the top offenses in college football, right? Toledo doesn't screw around when it comes to putting up yards and points. I'll be concerned when we hit conference and we still have these problems. I'll be concerned if Poly and Idaho put up a lot of yards on us. I'm not really sweating yet because Texas has three legit running backs who all will probably get a shot at the NFL at some point and Toledo plays in the MAC and the MAC knows how to put up a lot of offense in a hurry.

You have GOT to be joking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If Tiuller was still at UW, we woulda beaten the living shit out of Toledo for christ sake!!!!! It;s the MAC, people!!!!!! On the totempole of conferences, it's WAY below the MWC and just barely ahead of the Sun Belt!!!!!

I want championships. Not excuses!!!!!!!

You realize that Tiller's teams were predicated on offense, not defense right? That means we probably didn't play a lot of defense.. that's why the WAC had the reputation it had.. all O, no D. Gotta quit living in the past. The MAC as a conference might be below the MW, but they have some pretty good teams.. Toledo, Northern Illinois, Western Michigan.. besides, after last weekend I don't know how much we can go around thumping our chests about how tough the MW is.

LOL You need a few more cold ones wyokie...

Or maybe that's the issue...

Toledo is a good ball club, but they are a MAC school too. Can't get carried away with how good they are. Are they a good team? Yes. But Wyoming will see 3-5 teams better-to-much better than them going forward.

The defense is awful. I think everyone in the back of their minds knew this was possible. The loss of key defensive leaders and bringing in a DC with a questionable history should have tipped you off. But pleeeaassee....that is far from the only issue this team has. The secondary has dropped off, the O-Line has been getting Brett into a lot of trouble. The running game...well...doesn't exist. Like I've said a bajillion times, this team begins and ends with Brett Smith. We'll have to wait and see where he is at before completely panicking. Wyoming can still win 5-7 games if he is healthy all year. If....

So quit singling out the defense alone. This whole freaking team is average at best.

We had a defense when we played Nebraska at their place in 1994. Apparetly we had a defense the year we went 10-2 and gave BYU fits in the WAC title game. Remember?

And because I'm feeling particularly douchy, Tiller was a fine coach, but his overall record was 39-30-1.

After three years he was 17-17-1. Christiansen is 18-20-0 after his first three years. Perspective.

lol... no we didn't. We gave up 42 points to Nebraska. The 1996 year we gave up 23 points a game while scoring 38 points a game.. we didn't win by playing good defense, we won by scoring a shit load of points. If you subtract the Hawaii game that season we scored 36/gm while giving up 25/gm.

At least we had a defense under Tiller. Granted the defense never showed up in the Copper Bowl loss against K-State in 1993.

BTW, the last time I checked 17-17-1 is .500. 18-20 is BELOW .500!

I'd have to do some serious digging to find NCAA stats from 96', but 25/gm is a defense ranked way outside the Top 50.

Only because of dumb mistakes in the Nebraska game. Hell, we had a two touchdown lead at halftime in Lincoln! Had the ball bounced right a couple of times we win!!!! I haven't seen the tape of the game in years because a friend of mine has kept for 16 frinkin years and never got around to giving it back!!!!!

But that's football! You can deduce any game that's ever been played to look like you had a chance to win. Remove this and remove that.....

It would be tough to find a UW defense that lived up to the numbers top non-AQ teams have put up in recent years (TCU, BSU, Utah, etc.) Its a very rare altogether...

Well, the defense sucked under English, now it appears to suck under Tormey, but why is everyone ignoring the constant?
You mean other than not having an experienced AND proven DC at the helm? No. We have the size, we have the players, but we don't have a "Greg Brandon" for the defense.
And who would be responsible for that?

That is debatable. Coaching is an issue for sure, but some of this is a size and talent problem too.

Our DTs are in the high 280lbs to 300lbs and out DEs are now in the 250-260 range. Good size for pass rushers on the ends and run stoppers up the middle. Linebackers, if we ran a solid 3-4 defense, than our OLBs could stand to be bigger, but since the 3-3-5 relies more on speed and the 4-3 is meant to keep o-linemen off the linebackers, the size isn't too big of an issue. DBs, especially Ruff and Burns are quite exceptional. If told to be in a position that leaves them out of position, that falls on the DC's shoulders. When they are in position, they do very well.
