Chris Tormey

Does anyone have a clue what defense defensive coordinator Chris Tormey was calling today? I mean he did not blitz really all day, he rushed only 3 most of the time and there was absolutely no pressure on Toledo QB's all day.

When you rush 3 and they have 6 or 7 blocking that means your rush is being double teamed, it does not take a genius to figure this out but The Pokes defensive coordinator could not figure it out all day against Toledo. If this crap keeps up I hope they call for his head sooner rather than later. :willybs:

Blitzed a few times, sometimes worked, sometimes burned, but mostly just a 3 man rush (occasionally 4 man), but no pressure in the backfield.

Like I've said, never understood the love fest with Tormey this off-season. He was terrible at Hawaii, and most fans who've had him as a coach were thrilled to see him leave. Its never been a scheme issue or Marty English, its always been the lack of talent. I think this thing could actually get worse. Anyone notice the secondary seems to have dropped off from last year?

Yep, that happened when he was at UH too.

He's complete garbage. I'd say "can his ass now!"

Tormey, yes, but also, what was our OFFENSIVE coordinator calling at times today?

I thought the offense was pretty solid all day. Whenever you put up 30+ points and 500+ yards and you still loose, then offense isn't the problem, it's the defense. The only negative thing you can pin on the offense is the three turnovers and the 17 points Toledo scored off them. The coaching isn't the issue in those instances it's all about execution by the offense.

Yep, overall I was happy about the offense. Gone are the days of us barely averaging 200 yards of offense per game. I'm never going to forget that horrible embarrassment.

Goes to show that Greg Brandon was a good hire. Now if only we could do the same on the defensive side of the ball we'd be set.

The option called last week on the 4th down play in the 4th quarter with WYO driving left me confused.

Today the last play we ran on a 4th and 3 and we're running a reverse?

Make no mistake, I'm far less worried about our offense (even though we have virtually no running game) than I am the shipwreck of a defense we've seen...but doesn't mean our 'O' is all good either.

+1

I was especially frustrated by the lack of a goal line formation. We tried to run it out of the spread formation from the 1 foot line and got ate up for a 5 yard loss. I know that HCDC and Brandon are spread gurus, but there are times to get big, get tough, and pound the rock down the defense's throat!

Also, that final offensive play was chicken shit. I know that Captain Kirk isn't Brett Smith, but you HAVE to throw the ball on 4th and fairly long with the game on the line.

Well, the defense sucked under English, now it appears to suck under Tormey, but why is everyone ignoring the constant?

You mean other than not having an experienced AND proven DC at the helm? No. We have the size, we have the players, but we don't have a "Greg Brandon" for the defense.

Let him recruit the players he wants for his defensive schemes. He did blitz in the game but it seemed like when he did blitz we would get burned. Our defense overall was struggling and I think injuries had alot to do with it. We are deeper then we have been in the past but we still aren't as deep as we need to be to be top of the mountain if our starters go down.

I do think we will improve as we play against teams who aren't as exceptional on offense. Both Texas and Toledo have pretty dang good offensive squads.

Let me first say I am not one who wants to can a new coach after two games but if the D doesn't improve I would love to see Breske come back at some point. He is at Washington State right now but they don't have very good personnel on D so if he is available next year or down the road I say bring him back.

Breske would be a great get. Really doesn't matter what he does at WSU though, the Run & Shoot offense is a death sentence for even the best DC's.

My. $0.02 on the subject:

GET BRESKE BACK AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tormey can't even coach out of a paper bag!!!!!!!!
