CFB and State budget battle not unique to WYO

Louisiana faces a budget crisis, Gov. John Bel Edwards told the state Thursday night. And if the state legislature doesn't approve tax increases, that could result in drastic reductions to health care, big cuts in higher education and no college football!

My take. Politician move to get more funding. Make the most sensationalistic claim and threaten to cut a very popular item in order to get what he wants. I'm certain there are millions of other cuts that would do more for the budget than CFB.

Tasteless, IMO. These kids shouldn't be political pawns.
 
It's not about cutting football.

It's about the Louisiana state budget being in the shitter, and making it clear that if universities have to suspend classes because of it, then there won't be any football either.

Yeah, and cutting a huge revenue stream makes a lot of sense :willybs:

LSU football generates millions in revenue for the University as well as the community. He's not claiming that football needs to be cut to reduce expenses, clearly he recognizes it as a revenue stream.

He is claiming that the University may shut down in April, giving all students a grade of "incomplete" for this semester. He goes on to claim that this will make all student-athletes ineligible to compete in the fall.
 
I get that, but I guess what I mean is that he is using the well known and well utilized method of brinkmanship. Are you telling me that there are no other cuts that could be made to fund the University system through the end of the semester? Do all cuts have to entail things that are vital to health or University?

It is horse crap and I'd move to recall his arse over it.

Exactly.

Louisiana has tried to run itself on smoke and mirrors for a while now, and the chickens have come home to roost.
 
So, the only way to come up with the $940 million shortfall is to close Universities 1.5 months before graduation thereby devastating the financial well being of at least 1 major institution or perhaps it is the other solution of pulling people off of dialysis.

Really? Those are the only two options to make that work? Like I said, horse crap.
