Can't wait for Spring Ball!!!

I can't wait for Spring Ball!!!, or another commitment, or something. Luckily the Devin Moore draft watch has created some news to quench my UW football thirst. I'd like to see D Mo end up in Indy or Buffalo, I'd love to say Denver, but I don't know if they know what they are doing down there anymore. Pro game is boring anyway, thats why I love college football. I hope they announce some sort of spring schedule or another commitment soon, otherwise I will have to wait to read about the 2nd Pro day at UW about 2 weeks away.

I really can't understand why any blue chip football player wouldn't want to play at UW. Better chance to play early, against good competition, in hostile environments with "real" football weather, in a place where you can focus on school and football and stay out of trouble of the field. Any blue chipper could commit to USC or TX and ride the pine like a fool for 4 yrs, then wish he had gone somewhere he could get in the game for more fun and experience, or maybe even get to play at all. If they really want to do something special come to UW, if you dominate the MWC and make a name for yourself at UW, then you are doing something.

And what is up with all the USC linebackers being projected in the first round. According to the combine results they are all slow. Weston Johnson could run circles around them. I know, I know, there is more to football than speed, but come on, their 40 times are slower than a lot of DE recruits.

Finally, I think Danny Dutmer has a decent chance to make an NFL team. Long snappers are a commodity, teach your sons to long snap or punt, they could end up with a long nfl career.

I'm pretty excited for spring ball myself. I can't wait to see what this new offense is going to bring to the table. It'll be interesting to see who leaves spring camp as the #1 QB. Does Wyoming do anything like Montana does where they play a spring game somewhere in the state (other than Laramie), then play the final one in Laramie? The rushing game should also be interesting this year with Moore and Seldon leaving.. does that leave Terry as the man? Hopefully DC can whip these boys into shape and make them into a real football team.

I see spring battles at all skill positions on Offense, 2 LB spots, and a Safety position.

Of course, QB will be interesting, with 3 guys that have started, and a 4th who has potential. I really don't care who wins this battle, I think they all have thier own best qualities, it will just be interesting to see who ends up #1 and if they can keep throughout the fall and next season. Improved QB play is what I want next season no matter who it is.

I think we will have competition at all the skill positions on offense, with Bolling being the only sure starter next year. I will be interested to see what happens with all the Tight End/H-back/Fullback types we have. I love those guys (if you couldn't tell from username) but some don't seem to fit the spread offense. I do think we have a chance to rattle teams a bit by playing a little power type game one series-move the chains, then swap back to a speed spread type game when the D make adjustments. Seemed like Utah did a bit of that over Bama with some success, almost like they had 2 completely different offensive teams on their roster.

We have a lot of linemen that seem to be of similar ability, but someone needs to step up at center and run the show. Russ Arnold seems to be the likely choice, he was Bond's backup and will be a Sr next yr.

D-Line & CB is probably set. We need to find a couple new LBs to start, and a safety. I would bet 4 LBs (Whipp, Hendricks, Oliver, Studnicka) have a good shot at the 2 open spots. Zeb Whipp was Ward's backup for years and will be a Sr, but he would have to hold off some of those young LBs that were 3 stars recruits a couple yrs ago. Zeb is from my part of the state so I'm pulling for him, but like always, I want the guys that give us the best chance to win out there. I was at a conference in Colorado and got to talking with a guy about OLB Brian Hendricks. He knew Hendricks family and had great things to say about him. Strong Safety - that spot is so wide open I don't even know who to mention, I guess Kuhtz is the front runner. Maybe they move Prosinski to stong then Free is open, I don't know, so that will be fun to watch as well.

If I could do it over again, I would try to get married on the 50 at War Memorial. My wife calls me sick in the head. I did get to play in the last Shrine Bowl played in the War, wish I had video.

The QB we choose will be a huge decision. Spread offenses live and die by the decision making of the quarterback. There is a receiver open on every single play with a spread offense. The key is having a quarterback who can see it before the ball is ever snapped. You don't even have to be that great of a passer to be a successful QB in a spread offense. You just have to have an unbelievably deep understanding of the game of football. Hopefully someone can rise to the occasion. We are in good hands with Darius Terry at RB. I think he is going to pleasantly surprise a lot of fans this year. He is a perfect back for a spread offense. I haven't gotten a chance to see him block much though. The RB has to be able to identify a blitz and pick it up in a spread attack. I was a bit disappointed in the receivers we brought in this year. We really NEEDED a guy like Fritz Rock. Muhammad is the biggest steal of the recruiting class. Don't be surprised if he sees some time in the defensive secondary as a true freshman.

Shows what I know, Kuhtz isn't even listed on the new roster on the UW athletics website. Safety is up for grabs.

Ben Durbin could emerge as a starter at linebacker as well. I think no matter who the LB starters are, we will have plenty of quality subs and depth at that position. It looks like Beizuns move from H-back to OLB.

Can't wait for it to start.

Shows what I know part 2. Read an article where English mentions they need depth at Linebacker. Some are injuried and some didn't return to school in the spring, I believe. All interesting stuff.
