Can we fire Tom Burman yet?

How bad does one have to suck at their job before they get canned? Seriously. He's useless. Worst sports season I can ever remember. It's been miserable.

We are not a serious university. From The BOT to athletics, we are a joke.

I’ve always been on the fence regarding Burman. I wasn’t sure if he was part of the problem or simply hamstrung by the ineptness of those around him.

Now, I’m totally with you. What changed my mind was the Sawvel thing. Burman set out explicit expectations for Sawvel. Sawvel not only did not meet those expectations, he took the program in the opposite direction. Unless there is insider information I am not aware of, Burman did not even consider firing Sawvel at the end of the season.

Absolutely inexcusable and unacceptable. Both Sawvel and Burman need to go.

His contract expires this Summer as far as we know (no announcement of an extension publicly). I would say this is a very odd situation for an AD to be in the last few months of his contract and no one is talking about it but us at WyoNation.

I don't think he's going anywhere because the academic leadership or BOT at UW doesn't care but the best case scenario is after the spring sports season he announces his retirement. But the only problem is if that happens, his replacement will 100% be internal.

He couldn’t fire Sawvel because he gave him a guaranteed contract (for a reason no one can explain) that realistically prohibits firing from a financial perspective even if we go 2-10 next season.

The ineptitude is not in his lack of firing discussion. It’s in the fact of the contract he provided to a coach no one else was after that was made in a non-competitive process (ie no search). Reasonable arguments could be made at the time for continuity but it defies any level of logic or leadership to award Sawvel with the guaranteed contract he got.

I think back to 2007 or 08 when we had Heath and Joe Glenn doing their thing at the same time. That was pretty bad but I think this is even worse. We have a football coach who justified his qb choice by claiming that if he benched him, he would hit the portal! In all my years of following Cowboy sports, that was the most idiotic statement I've heard from a Wyoming coach. And we're stuck with him for God knows how long. He makes Vic look like Andy Reid.

Ineptitude.

It's bizarre, I've never really seen an athletic director still have a job who was had so little respect from the the fan base they represent, he makes no public comments or statements about ANYTHING. There was a weird "interview" with his paid minion Ryan Thorburn. But other that he hasn't made an appearance since the football season started. He knows the fan base doesn't care what he says or thinks. Yet, he just keeps picking up his check for $551,000. How long can this type of "leadership" go on?
