Call me crazy but...

This quote from Gillespie kind of made me just stare at the computer screen!

“I never comment on my interest in any potential position whether real or perceived,” Gillispie said in an email to the Star-Tribune. “I would like to return to coaching at some point but only when i have what i believe is a chance to go to the final four!!! That is my goal.”

So basically, if he did take the job at UW, he believes that with some work this is possible? I don't think that there is one single poke fan out there, ANYWHERE, that could dream of that ever happening. With the crap that us as fans have been put through for soooooooo long, it's just crazy talk. Then you look at SDSU at # 6 in the nation and you know what..... maybe it is possible. I have never heard a coach at Wyoming even come close to saying something like that.

I know one thing, I absolutely LOVE that kind of talk though and if there is any possiblity of getting someone like that at Wyo.... what do we have to lose? It can't get any worse. I say, bring him in, make it work, and lets get going to the goal!!!

I think that's nothing but a platitude. Here's the thing with basketball... getting to the final four is possible at ANY D1 school. With the right players, the right coach, etc, it can be done from anywhere. Yes, it's more likely to happen if you're Kansas, or Duke, or someone like that. But why? Because they had the right players, the right coaches, and then the administration stepped up and paid the coach to keep him there (at least for a while). There's no reason something similar couldn't happen at Wyoming, as long as the adminstration stepped up and made it happen.

Yeah, it's been a LONG time since something like that happened in the men's program, but there's no reason it can't happen again. Maybe Gillispie is the right guy to do it, and I hope the admins give him every consideration, but I don't think you can infer much from that statement.

GO POKES!

Yeah, it's kinda like whatever clown they stick to coach the detroit lions. He's going to say that the superbowl is his goal. He's not going to say that he has boat payments due and that his nest egg is all dried up. I think he's basically setting up any potential school that might want to hire him. What school doesn't want to hear that he want to get to the final four? It's better than what was probably going through Schroyers mind when he interviewed. "I want to win the pigtail one of these damn years!".
