California recruiting starting to pay dividends.

After years of recruiting Texas players the shift to focusing on California recruits is starting to pay off immediately. Players like ; Robert Heron, Shaun Wick, Jordan Stanton, Albert Perez, Timmy Hayes, Conner Raines and punter Justin Martin have all made a immediate impact on the program. Being a Colorado guy and a Wyo alumni I still love to see the Colorado boys excell but those California players seem like they have no problem transitioning from sunny Cali to the high plains. They also seem more physically ready to make that immediate impact. Just wondering if anyone noticed this and why they transition so quickly to the FBS level ? I really think the shift to West Coast recruits have made a difference. What are some of your guys thoughts?

I think people focus on Texas too much sometimes. Great recruiting state yeah, but not the only great one. Cali produces some stars. In all sports actually.
I think it is probably easier to get Cali kids to play in the MWC because the MWC has such a presence there. Pac12 and MWC are the conferences that have teams in Cali. Texas though, that is Big12 and SEC territory.

And the west coast thing, with the amount of coaches that Wyo has with west coast connections help. DC from Washington (and Mizzou but that's SEC Big12) and Gesser, and Kaglis.
Easier for DC to call up an old friend coaching HS ball in Washington or Oregon and recruit them to Wyo than it is to get kids from SEC Big12 territory.

Kaligis has been very important in recruiting in Pac12 country in Washington.. Olive, Sewell, and a number of others. Montana pulls great players from Washington, Wyoming's pipeline there is becoming a good tool.

I believe with the amount of talent that comes out of Cali, Oregon, and Washington, you can build a genuinely good program. That and of course the Colorado recruits we will be getting as well, with a handful of Wyo ones as well.

Thats definitely true. As is the case with Wacha, who for an undersized Lb is getting it done with his speed and aggressiveness. I never thought that Wacha would be a dominant force on our defense. He sure has proved me wrong.

We've always struggled getting Texas kids to stay. I like recruiting Cali, WA, and Oregon.
I agree. The Texans never seem to stay around. Ironic since so many Texan's vacation here; I'd want to get the hell out of Texas to.

Well, the Gipson Brothers stayed their whole careers.

I wonder how many times somebody said that to Young Lucas? Lol. Hes probably saying oh man not this crap again. I heard a lot of kids saying that at the game. One kid kept saying that over and over like the sound from the Pac man game. SMH.

The Gipson brothers almost stayed their whole career. Marcel left for about a year and came back.

However, Doctson, Sutton, and almost every Joe Glenn recruit from Texas did not stick around.
