BYU to return to Mountain West? BYU AD: 'never say never'

I don't agree that Wyoming is looked at as the dead weight anymore. We won two conference titles this year. We have a basketball program built for long term success, multiple NCAA bids, and a cash cow for the MWC for the forseeable future.

The Volleyball team was picked fourth pre-season. The soccer team was in the championship game and only lost three seniors. Our swimming/diving team is always in the top half of the league. The wrestling team is dominant and a regular top 25 program. Our tennis team won a title this year. Wyoming is on the way up.

San Joser is a turd. Hawaii isn't much better.

I think Bohl will get us back to our late 80's level of success, when we're winning conference titles at both of the revenue producing sports during the same season.

Fuck them, appropriately. They do not like the anal in Provo.
Actually, the Provostan (and many of the faithful) girls will encourage the use of the back door. This way they can claim to still be, technically, "virgins" when they get married.

I don't have to believe in their crap. It's my right.

If it's my opinion that a nation of Israel never existed in Pennsylvania, I can say that with 100 percent confidence that there has never been ONE solitary piece of archeological evidence of the existence of that culture unearthed.

That's one of the main problems with BYU. I'm supposed to seperate religion from sports whenever I discuss my skepticism of their cult or the success of their football team, yet they don't have to seperate church from state when they send their entire football team on mission, when they fund their athletics programs through tithes generated by an army of salesmen spreading the gospel, or when they build their recruiting centers in every Polynesian culture on earth.

They come with their own set of rules that all their conference members have to follow. We all have to walk on eggshells to make sure we don't offend any of their cultists. We all have to play by their rules to enjoy the priviledge of listening to them brag about their success when they're the team in conference that benefits the most from their special cultist rule book that applies to everyone in the league.

No thanks. They can take that garbage somewhere else.

CJ I get where you are coming from completely...but lemme ask you: Would us not going to Provo and running it up their ass in front of a traveling band of five thousand hootin' and hollerin' Wyoming fans -- against the backdrop the Slide Canyon mountain range...would this not be supremely delicious? I see this scene in my mind's eye and my mouth is beginning to water as I think about the smile that never leaves my face on the 400 mile drive back to God's land.

Also wanted to add: The last time we played them was back in 2010. Some have suggested that we schedule them in an OOC game. Does anyone really see this happening? There is nothing on any future schedule which provides any reason to believe these 2 schools will get together anytime soon...so the only way I see us getting an opportunity to lay the wood to them is if they rejoin the MWC eventually.
I am way past being done legitimizing that so-called university and the 19th Century version of Scientology. Let their sports programs wither and die by ignoring them.

THAT is the best way to describe Mormonism I ever seen.

I like their style

Screw BYU, leave them in independent hell. If you want to beat up on them, just schedule OOC. San Jose gets home/home deals with them the past series, don't see why Wyoming couldn't get the same.

For those saying boot San Jose from the MWC, yes, our basketball team is shitty but when you have to clean house and start from scratch, you're kinda screwed. The former coach sent the team into APR hell which cost them scholarships, practice time and postseason play. Couple that with he was a flat out shitty coach and you see what happens. Its a little hard to make significant progress in such a good conference right away anyways. I believe the team will be making improvement as recruiting has gotten better and we have a decent coach now. Gene Bleymaier has taken on the Boise St approach for San Jose after he had to take the fall for Boise's screw ups. Give it a little more time and you'll see the benefits.

WRT Hawaii, I'm fine with dumping them as all they provide is a long and expensive trip to the islands where most teams have trouble playing anyways. They don't even have any other sports in the conference.

In defense of Hawaii, a trip to the islands is an attractive part of a recruiter's sales pitch, so there's that... Honolulu is a half decent sized market witch can act as a bridge to Samoan recruits and large Asian markets as well... They have had years of success in the past and they provide the conference with a bowl destination, too. Is that worth the expensive trip? Not sure. If you get rid of them, there is no viable replacement within the geographic footprint to make the 12 teams needed for a title game-- unless you want to add BYU... I'd prefer to keep Hawaii instead, but that's just me...

You can always try to add New Mexico St. Good Basketball team which Hawaii doesn't provide one at all, Not a great football team but neither is Hawaii. Provides that natural rivalry with New Mexico and saves everyone the travel costs. Only thing that would change is probably sending Boise to the West Division. Boise, Fresno, SUDS, SJSU, Nevada, UNLV in the West and Wyoming, Utah ST, Colorado St, Air Force, New Mexico and New Mexico St in the Mountain. Makes it a much easier path to the championship in the Mountain and that way Fresno, SUDS and Boise can beat up on each other in the West.

Which is exactly why those west division schools would never agree to it... UTEP would serve that purpose far better than NMSU ever would, but what do you want to say to a recruit... 'Hey, we're going to Honolulu' or 'Hey, we're going to El Paso / Las Cruses'?

I know you didn't ask me...but fuck ya, I am in. As I mentioned, my balls are tingling just thinking about that.

I was at the game in Provostan in 2010. If it weren't for a late 4th quarter pass interference no-call (David Leonard) on about their 15 yard line, we beat them. The whole fourth quarter those asshole fans were telling me to "start the bus" - when we started marching. I turned around at one point, during the march downfield, and half of them had left. They knew if we scored it was over, and I would be in their shit. Damn that pisses me off...

If you want to puke...(of course the didn't show the PI):

Don't forget the early PI that was called on us (that was just a bump far from the ball on a non catchable pass) that ended a drive. That kind of crap happens every time you play the bastards.

The game has changed. Do we need them to get the NY6 bid? No. Do they increase our bball bids? No. Do they significantly increase our financial bottom line? No. There simply is no reason to risk adding byu. It only helps them.

Exactly! Let them rot!

I really, really wish BYU would end their sports program altogether. It does not represent the LDS Church or its values in a favorable way. As a Mormon I just don't see the point. Sports are not important in the grand scheme and I feel all the resources used for athletics should go into the church's already extensive humanitarian aid program. Millions of dollars could go a long way in helping the poor and needy. I, too, would be delighted to see BYU just go away.
