Bye Dave

The biggest problem with this whole thing is now UNLV could be a lot scarier. They could also just go into a complete nosedive train wreck too.......

With a budget the size of UNLV's - and what are the best facilities in the MWC (and rivaling any of those in the western US frankly) - it is shocking to me they can't get their shit together...going on 25 years now.
They had it together in Lon Kruger. He couldn't stand Findlay and a few other big boosters so when Oklahoma came along he got the hell out.

Interesting...Lon definitely was the best coach UNLV has had since Tark, but he never got UNLV to the elite level (that he appears to be doing right now in Oklahomo). And there was an additional $1,000,000 in salary for the move for Lon as well - right?

Laugh it up now. They might not get them, but mike d'antoni answeres a call. 300+ current D1 coaches answer that call. Heck calipari has to stay ahead of the NCAA recruiters so he answers that call.

Laugh it off about who they get right? Shyatt would take that job. So would a lot of others. For the sake of the conference hopefully they strike big. For the sake of Wyoming? Well him coaching would have been best

Would Shyatt leave UW for that job? Hell no. Not a chance in hell.

Would Shyatt take that job if he was currently unemployed and looking for a high profile job? HELL YES. Don't think for a second any coach looking for a job wouldn't through any hoop to land this job. It really should be a slam dunk for any coach worth half of Rice's salary to get this roster turned around and winning games.

He got them to the Sweet 16 and was always getting them to the Tournament, but Cliff Findlay set up Findlay Prep and used it to somewhat derail Kruger. Most people think he was actually steering the early players away from UNLV to make Kruger look bad. Cliff Findlay doesn't like to be kept at arm's length from the program, as is necessary to maintain a department's autonomy, and Kruger wasn't making an exception.

As far as the money goes- between Findlay and a handful of other donors, they could've matched or beaten Oklahoma's offer. There's a reason Oklahoma went after Kruger and it wasn't because he wasn't doing well at UNLV. There's a very toxic donor culture there that's as stuck in the past as you can imagine. They think they're still playing Big West level teams year in- year out and that any day Tarkanian's going to be fully exonerated by the NCAA and return as head coach.

Dead on.

Everyone seems to forget that when Kruger left, elite coaches weren't exactly beating down the UNLV AD's door. Hell, they didn't have very many head coaches, period, knocking on the door to interview.

They don't realize it (their egos won't allow it), but as such, therein lies the #1 reason UNLV basketball will never return to 1990 prominence. Nor be anything relevant in Football (or any other sport for that matter). Hell, I am of mind that "they" ruined UNLV baseball...which was at one time trending to be top 10 annually.

By the way, I had a memory come back to me the other day...didn't your (way-former) girlfriend make out with Michael Hutchence during a live performance? Classic if I am remembering correctly. He performed the rest of the concert with her lipstick all over his face...

Something like that- she wasn't my girlfriend at the time and had gone to the show at Red Rocks with her then-boyfriend along with about a dozen of us from Laradise. She basically abandoned him once we all got there and primed with our little group in the parking lot, then made the fast walk into the amphitheater with me. Sitting with me during the warm-up band, she eventually said she was going to get the opening act's (who I was a huge fan of) autographs for me and headed down to the stage. She still wasn't back by the time INXS took the stage and we were all wondering where she was when Hutchence pulled her from the front row and she went nuts on him. He had her lipstick all over his face for most of the rest of the show. Her boyfriend was so pissed, she wound up riding back to Laramie with me. We "dated" off-and-on a for a couple of years after that.
