Burman/Reeves Address Board of Trustees Regarding Athletics

President Reeves and Tom Burman spoke to the board of trustees yesterday in Evanston about the state of Wyoming athletics and how to move forward. There were a couple other coments from Reeves related to sports throughout the entirety of the meeting. I've made notes/marks of those comments and also where to skip to, to hear from Burman. There is a ton of information in here! This was also Reeves' first in person board meeting, so you can watch at the 42:15 mark to hear his introduction and overview of his plans for the University.

Reeves on athletic success being one of his top/first priorities: "we intend to win and compete....it's a non-negotiable"

Reeves on using athletic success to grow enrollment:

Interesting from Burman: I believe you'll see another change in conference alignment in 4 years

Good quote from Reeves after Burman spoke "I can't think of a greater emergency than the fact that we have never won the Mountain West in 25 years, that's an exigent circumstance right there. It's time to win the Mountain West"

A good first step would to publicly announce that Burman will not be renewed July 1, 2027. Guess the BoT cannot hide the contract extension and pay raise this time

Though we have pitch forks ready for Burman, my guess the General lets Burman ride out his contract July 1, 2027 and then he quietly rides off.
Agree.

Almost 0% chance he fires Burman before his contract expires next summer. I don't think Burman will be offered another contract and he is probably content with retiring at this point. Win-win for everyone involved.

President Reeves will likely spend this year gaging interest in the position and completing due diligence on potential replacement AD candidates.

I think he also gagged when he saw that we have no championships in 25 years. I know athletics is on his mind but he also must fix the dumpster fire academically that the former wet napkin, President, created. His policy changes thus far have not sparked much public backlash so they must be well received thus far by University employees.

Burman has been more worried about the ex Cheyenne mayor than winning championships for the last several years. His choice in women is about as good as his coaching hires.

That’s a lose win. Burman wins, we lose

"Wet Napkin"...LOL - well said.

I agree with the posts here. You probably don't become a general by making quick/emotional/uninformed decisions. I assume everyone at UW (deans, AD, etc.) will be given a full chance to propose their ideas, implement them and assume responsibility for those under Reeves' watch. He'll have no problem weeding out those that aren't aligned with his vision once he has seen them in action, but he's starting from scratch with everyone there. Probably a prove yourself year (or maybe less) for everyone at the University.

I watched the video. It so old listening to Burman talk about winning. I'm certain he wants to win it's become painfully obvious over the 20 + years that he cannot accomplish this.

I watched. Im so tired of Burman talking about winning. Over the past 20+ years it's become painfully obvious to the fan base that while he wants to win he has no idea how to do that. He was born into the job, but not born to do the job.
