Burman guest column in CSD

The culture of mediocrity expert. Everyone knows the majority of people in the state have some level of interest in WYO athletics. You don't need a survey for that.

How about a survey on the importance of success of WYO athletics and if the fanbase views 4 win football seasons as successful? Why not survey if the current trajectory of the AD is acceptable? Do you feel your tax dollars are being used to generate acceptable results?

The JA story is great but WYO's consistent flex and seemingly only flex is almost embarrassing now. Newsflash,we lost the damn game to the worst mwc team at home.

Some weird word salad about the benefits of athletics to UW but no mention of any specific metrics. Then a completely response bias or framing biased survey asking for affirmation that residents enjoy UW athletics vs the real issue if athletics is being managed correctly, establishing a winning culture, and proud of teams' achievements.

Tldr: administrative slight of hand trying to put lipstick on a pig and justify it.

The reality is that we are all incredibly tired of hearing the same pabulum year after year. Most of us see through it. Ultimately, you are what your record says you are. If you look at the TB tenure, we are an empty suit - we are all hat and no cattle. We have facilities, fan support, an NFL MVP that is an amazing ambassador, state funding (for now), and WE HAVE NOTHING TO SHOW FOR IT. Facilities are only as good as the teams that win or lose in them.

A motivated athletic department would have leveraged all of those strengths into CHAMPIONSHIPS. We have squandered them and are, unfortunately, on the cusp of a fairly dark time in Wyoming's history with out-migration, dwindling revenues, and backbiting likely leading to program-altering declines over the next decade. And we get this happy horse-poo in the CSD. No vision or plan to rally around. Regurgitated tropes and excuses about why we can't be great (or even just a little better). We are all tired. I am now Missouri - SHOW ME. Show me ONE CHAMPIONSHIP. Just one. One. Please. One. Start small. One. Not improvement. Not excuses. A CHAMPIONSHIP. Other schools in our conference do it. Other schools in tougher spots than us do it. Quit talking.

Dude, he said, "we are intent upon competing for championships in the Mountain West Conference." What more could you want?

He is going to try and use the survey and supposed statewide to gear up support for some type of legislation to pay the players under the NIL. He tried that bill last year in the budget session when he said it was a "emergency". The Governor had him cut the request back, but the legislature still kicked it out and indicated it wasn't a "emergency".

I love this line:
Quite frankly, our ability to maintain UW’s proud Division I athletic tradition depends upon how successful we are in these efforts.
--- No it depended on you as athletic director building winning programs that produced championships and postseason bids. You have completely failed.

And this crap with Josh Allen is just overdone. That's all they really have to show for his entire time as AD so he plays it up as much as he can. People are so tired of Burman and his $555,000 salary. The whole racquet is just worn out on so many people who know what is going on.

Fair. ;)

I would just note that I am intent on winning the lottery and being thin and in shape. Please let me know when I can collect my winnings and check my scale and see a number that starts with "1" again.

Agree with pretty much everything you all state.

I’m so confused with the purpose of the editorial. Is it to tell the folks in the legislature that Josh Allen went here and so therefore the legislature should support UW athletics?

I can help you with this today! Go to your settings in the scale and switch to kilograms/metric. Problem solved 😂

The only programs with a winning record over TB's time, by my recollection, are women's basketball and maybe wrestling, depending on how you count match victories, etc. Everything else is at or below the waterline in the great porcelain crapper.

Moving to the REAL ACCOMPLISHMENT of actual championships, we have occasionally caught lightening in the bottle with single classes in MBB (one in Shyatt's time and one in Linder's tenure), but CSU has the same number of MBB NCAA tourney appearances in the past several years as we have had in decades.

I hate to say it, but there is no "proud Division I athletic tradition" at Wyoming to "maintain". Maintaining means keeping stuff going at the level it current is. All we can do is pine for the mid 1900s and 1980s (which was almost 50 years ago). The only tradition we have to actually maintain is wrapped in .500 records (in good years) and participation trophies/ribbons - and I am proud of neither.

Just like Wyoming shedding its real competition in conference with the hope that someday they can claim a championship. Equally hollow. But I really appreciate your suggestion and critical thinking.
