Brett Smith Hit

Not sure who was at the game today on this board I will say I was and was sitting right near where Smith git hit and went down at. As much as I hate to admit it it was a damn clean hit. When Smith got up you could see he was not right he was basically being held up and he was looking back at the ref it looked like he said something to him and I do not think it was to nice as he was moved quickly away by trainers after whatever he said.

I know no one wants to hear it but it was a clean hit it is the way you are taught to tackle at a very young age.

There was a pass interference on the sideline on that play that should have been called on TCU that was not called and would have giving the Pokes a 1st down.

No matter what when you force 5 turnovers you should win the game and when you don't it shows the problems your team really has.

It was clean if taking 2 steps and leading with the head is clean, However he took extra steps and it should have been called. If I see a replay that shows otherwise I'll say so but from every replay I have watched I say it was dirty he took extra steps.

Like I said I have not seen a replay, I saw it live and that is what I am going on. I officiate football and in the moment if I was on the field I would not have called it. I will look for a replay and if anyone has a link to one please post it here so I can see it.

Well that is the problem if you don't call it when it happens you can't call it later. However if you call it you can pickup the flag. I don't know if I have a video of it I'll check.

I'm in Washington on vacation so I couldn't go to the game. I watched it on the mtn. in a sportsbar, so I had the luxury of watching the replay without having to listen to Todd C. propaganda.

He should have been flagged all three times. He led with his head on every play.

He definitely lead with his head and lunged when he tackled he mot certainly should have been called on all 3 and more so he should have been thrown out. There is no place for intentionally trying to hurt someone repeatedly in the same game.

There is a player notorious for that in the NFL from the Falcons and he has been fined so many times it's not even funny. He has hurt multiple people and imo he should be suspended for games instead of just fined.

I DVR'd the game I'll rewind back and record the shots in some higher quality video so I can actually see it but you can tell they are all head hits with the way Smiths head whips back when he gets hit.

Correct. If his head goes BACK, it was a head hit. If it was in the chest, his head would go FORWARD. Think of the situation in a head-on car crash.

I do agree, the hit was clean. But what makes it questionable is the precedent set by the call where our defender hit TCU's receiver cleanly in the chest the same way and it was called. I would say that call is what impacted the game more and swung momentum in TCU's favor.

The pass interference is what I was yelling at on the play where Smith was hit, I wonder how many people were yelling about that and got sucked into the others griping about the hit.

I think the officials impacted the game, but you are correct. When you are +5 in the turnover margin you can't blame that on the officials, you have to blame that on again a lack of efficiency in the 2nd half.

The offense played well for 1 half and just tanked the 2nd half, again. Hopefully Smith is healthy for the Air Force game next week.

I didn't think it was clean. But regardless, he also threw a forearm into Smith's chest. Did that one of the previous hits too. It was pretty clear to me that he was out to get Smith, and he should have been called for it.

That said, the O-line has got to do a better job of picking up those late blitzes. Just about all of those big hits came on a late blitz.

Hope Smith is ok for next week. Kirkegaard sure didn't show much, but he should be better after a week of practice.

GO POKES!

The last hit the one that really mattered is the one where the camera misses part of it. There is another back view on mtn I just saw I'll try to dvr it and upload it as well. The reason the hit should have been flagged is it was his 2nd time both times watching the video you can see the force he is putting into it and the extra steps he takes. It's over now I realize but not only did it change the game momentum but it side lined our QB which halted the offense completely.

None of hits were clean I hope he gets ejected from some game for that type of play.

Good video. You should have included the first one that was flagged. In all three he led with the helmet, he targeted Smith's chin, he ran through the tackle and went helmet to helmet.

He was trying to hurt him. There's no doubt about that.

100% clean hit. Don't blame a 230lb LB for laying the wood on an open QB. Blame the OL for not blocking him.

You can blame him for leading with his helmet, you can lay out a QB by going in with your shoulder just as easily AND not aiming for his chinstrap.....go home

1) Tank didn't spear the guy with the top of his helmet. He hit him shoulder to shoulder, contact was initially made at the top half of the numbers.

2) Your QB Smith said at the end of the game that he got the wind knocked out of him. If the hit was helmet-to-helmet as you all proclaim, then how did he get the wind knocked out of him on the play? Since when does a headshot knock the air out of a guy?

3) Thanks for the games. Smith will be a good one.

You get the wind knocked out of you when you hit the ground with the force Smith did. It's not that difficult really.

You must be fucking blind look at the pictures the fucking loser lead with his head. Apparently you have never been knocked to the ground so hard when your back hits it knocks the air out of you. I certainly have more than once.

Tank is a cheap shot artist, I have zero respect for him for intentionally lunging and head hunting with helmet to helmet hits. He wasn't even trying to tackle and in the first picture not only did he lead with his head he threw a forearm as well.

Trash player karma is a bitch and in the NFL he will be paying 35K for those hits if he even makes it.

Leading with your helmet isn't a penalty, leading with the crown of your helmet is. Sorry to try to defend him, (the first two hits were illegal), but the hit that took Smith out was legal. He led with his facemask (legal) and hit him in the chest and slid up to his chin/facemask (also legal). Also, he didn't take any extra steps on that hit as Smith arm is still moving as he gets hit.

The first two hits were crap, but the final one was a legal hit.

P.S. Like mentioned above, I was more upset by the pass interference on this play than anything else.

It was illegal, you cannot target a QB, WR in the neck and above area....PENALTY. It does not matter if it was helmet to helmet, it matters that he went for his head and hit him high.
