Brett Smith cut by Buccanneers

There is no question, and there is no sugar coating it......Brett made (unfortunately for him and UW) a HUGE mistake at coming out early. He obviously got some really bad advice from someone that he would be ready for the next level. This is my last statement about him making this mistake....I really like the kid and to think what he could have done with another year at UW and in Bohl's system just makes me sick.....

I agree with this 100% - and it feels very odd. :yikes:

The Buccaneers weren't his only suitor after the draft. There is still a chance he catches on with another team for training camp.

Me too, but we all want the same thing.......... :-o

This sucks. I can not believe it.
What...in...the...F***

Dave Christensen QBs kick ass in college, don't do jack in the NFL (as a QB).

Brad Smith was good at Mizzou, moved to WR in NFL.
Chase Daniel killed it at Mizzou, is a back up in the NFL that has played in a handful of games at tops.
Blaine Gabbert was a Heisman finalist at Mizzou, one of the biggest first round busts in recent history.
ACS was amazingly fun to watch at Wyo, won't get a chance in the NFL.
Brett Smith was on an entire different level than almost anyone he played at Wyo, gets cut after 1st rookie mini-camp.

I hope he gets picked up off waivers. That would be sad to see such a hard working, tough nosed cowboy ride off into the sunset. He just should of stayed to help raise his stock. There were just too many Qbs in the draft this year. I knew when he got snubbed at the combine things were gonna be bad.

They call those "system QBs." Just like none of Steve Spurrier's QBs ever pan out.
On the money. At least Spurrier could coach a team. I think we're going to continue to see examples of Chrsitensen's toxicity as a leader...

Could also be that Tampa thinks he will clear waivers and put him on the practice squad, that would save them a few bucks while they develop him.

No. That type of move does not happen until at least after the second pre-season game when rosters need to be cut down. He needs to be on Tampa Bay's roster to continue practicing with Tampa Bay and I don't believe practice squads can even be established until after the first or second pre-season game.

That isn't true at all, I've seen quite a few players cut after a mini camp then get signed to the practice quad after the trade deadline.

QB's?

We all feel bad the kid didn't get much of an opportunity. On the other hand, he didn't give the new staff an opportunity either. I felt it was a slap in their face to not return. Not sayin' they could've worked wonders, but he would've been coached up by a group who, imo, have a better grasp of the pro-style offense. Tough luck. I wish the kid the best.

hindsight's always 20/20, but who the hell was in his ear, telling him he had a shot, I don't get it, really waste of a dude that coulda had a stellar senior season, shattered all UW passing and offensive records. I think he really let his ego get the best of him, he needed a 4th year to really polish and hone those skill even better even if it was under a different program system etc.... I feel really bad for him, but hope he lands in the Canadian League or Arena league, he can make his way up again, but I'm just disappointed the info he was given for him to not be drafted, Dear NCAA can we have him back...lol
