Brett Smith cut by Buccanneers

Hindsight is always 20/20, but Brett got some really bad advice from someone - listened to all of the sunshine pumping from his peeps, and thought he was going to set the world on fire. I think the Bucs gave him an incredible opportunity at rookie camp, especially since he was the only QB there. He got plenty of reps to show the coaching staff what he could do. Obviously, they didn't like what they saw. I hope he gets another opportunity, but it is looking like his best route would have been sticking around Laramie for another year, gain some valuable experience under Bohl, and then see what would have happened. Unfortunately, he cannot turn back the clock and undue this mistake.

Now where's that dead horse.........

My thoughts exactly. Bad, bad advice.

How ironic that the staff is visiting Cade today in Oregon.

There is no question, and there is no sugar coating it......Brett made (unfortunately for him and UW) a HUGE mistake at coming out early. He obviously got some really bad advice from someone that he would be ready for the next level. This is my last statement about him making this mistake....I really like the kid and to think what he could have done with another year at UW and in Bohl's system just makes me sick.....

It is a crying shame that he didn't come back for his senior year. We will probably never know the reasons behind his decision, or who influenced it the most. But I sure wish he could get a do over. Sad day for Brett.

From all indiciations, it was Brett's dad.

That really is too bad. I know his dad probably thought he had the kid's best interests at heart, but I also think his dad might have been living a little vicariously through his son. Unfortunate. I hope Brett gets another chance with another team, but chances in the NFL are pretty limited.

Hmm...usually I have some smart ass remark, or and underlining tone to my posts. But right now I genuinely feel bad for this kid.

Maybe once the burn is gone, he can come back and GA and mentor our incredible crop of qb's. If this is the end, he definitely should finish his degree either way.

I like that idea...he would be a huge asset to our program even as a GA!

First off I feel for Brett, I think he deserved more time but the NFL moves on fast. I'm sure he thought he was making the best decision at the time. I'm not sure where he goes from here. I don't think he will ever see another NFL practice field. Perhaps Arena, IFL, Semi-pro if he wants to continue playing.

Could also be that Tampa thinks he will clear waivers and put him on the practice squad, that would save them a few bucks while they develop him.

No. That type of move does not happen until at least after the second pre-season game when rosters need to be cut down. He needs to be on Tampa Bay's roster to continue practicing with Tampa Bay and I don't believe practice squads can even be established until after the first or second pre-season game.

They don't sign players to the practice squad until after the final cuts which take place after the final preseason game.
