Brett Leaving?

So...with recent reports of a high draft stock....does our QB take his services to the NFL?

I very much doubt it. He's certainly going to have to consider it with all of the talk recently, but I think that playing Oregon in Eugene next year is a big deal for him. He also seems very loyal to his teammates, and he's the kind of kid that stands by his commitments.

Before the season I said no way, no how. Not because he isn't talented enough, but because he wasn't going to generate enough press/interest to be anything higher than a 5th round or later pick. However, if he can continue to put up the staggering numbers he has been then he might generate enough interest to jump up to Round 3/4. Unfortunately, IMO, there is no way he will be a 1st or 2nd round unless the Pokes go undefeated from here out and he averages 400+ pass yards and 4+ pass TDs a game, and even then....

I don't think so either, unless he would be a guaranteed 1st rounder. I think he should test the waters but NOT sign with an agent, but I really think he's got good motivation to stay for his Senior year go to Eugene next year and see what he can do against his "hometown-state" Ducks. Imagine if we could beat them and then beat Michigan St(whom will be down) we could potentially have a Boise State type year next year. So like i tell everyone, let's enjoy him while we can, and people that can, come down to Laramie and support this stud QB we have here at UW.
GO POKES

No matter how much he "has to prove" to Oregon, it doesnt matter. If, for some reason, he is projected to be drafted at all and have a sign on bonus and start making some ca$h, that will trump a "win over Oregon" 100 times out of 100.

He is one scramble away from being the next Chuckie Keeton. Why do you risk that? You can't. If he is projected to get drafted I wish him well and will follow him closely.

That being said, I dont think he is NFL caliber....yet. As of today, he isnt going anywhere. Wyoming isnt a respected enough program yet to get a lot of media hype that comes with it. I think Fresno is decent, but the marketing machine and hype-coaster surounding Carr is almost tiring. Media is pumping his rectum so full of air that he can't come down. Although I respect and like Chuckie Keeton, I felt the same about him. The media honkies loved him.

Just last week, the local Utah media dip$hit radio people said, "You have Carr, Keeton, Fales...and no one else in the MWC." Someone called and said, "What about Wyo QB?" The hosts laughed and said, "Real cute. A Wyoming QB doing well. Stats don't mean crap when you play at Wyoming. No one can take you serious." The guy wo said it is a Virgina Tech grad who moved out here. The narrow-mindedness is almost embarrasing.

I think Brett is the type of person to finish what he started. He has the skills to play in the NFL, but think he will get his degree too. With the nucleus of players returning next year, I think he can only improve his situation.

Brett getting drafted has ZERO to do with "Wyoming isn't respected" argument. Sound like the Utah media is getting to you with that statement. All the NFL draft rankings have Smith ranked pretty high next year. There is also the draft combined that allows scouts to judge players based on their own eyes.

There are also a number of NFL scouts that attend all the practices. They are aware of who Brett Smith is......even if the Utard media isn't.

Go Pokes!!

I have to disagree. The Utah media isnt the reason on my decision. I just dont think Wyoming is getting enough attention yet. Meaning, yes, NFL scouts looks through the bullshi, but I dont think he is up to the hype of a carr media machine yet.

Kind of missed the point.... My point more than ANYTHING ELSE, was that if Smith had the choice.....

A) Sign a $250,000 sign on bonus and make $500k a year

or

B) "Finish what he started and get his degree"

or

C) "Have revenge at Oregon"

A. No. brainer.

Why do you get your degree? To make money. If you will make money playing football, what diff does it make? The Oregon win would be big news for like an hour on ESPN, then he is back playing Nevada the next week. Yay. With still nothing more than bragging rights for people who wont care later.

If you had the chance of making $500k or the Pokes winning a national title, what would you do personally.

No. Brainer.

I do fully agree with this.

i know and i agree if the shot is there, you gotta take it, UW doesn't get the media attention to EVER get pub on something like this...but it's nice to get some along the way....Carr is basking off his brother's coat tails anyway

Dont think Brett will leave. He seems like a grounded young man and earning a degree would mean a lot to him. If he stays I believe the benifits outweigh the lure of money. Next season he gets basically his entire offense back less Herron and Strong. He gets a shot at the school that snubbed him ( Oregon ). Him a Chuckie Keeton will be the only high profile Qbs returning in the MWC and the publicity hes getting now will be ten fold what it is now. His draft stock will be even higher I believe.

good points, well taken and totally agree there

Have we actually seen anything to suggest he'll declare for this year? And are we really discussing this 5 games into the season with a big game coming up Saturday? And are people forgetting he wants to show Oregon what they ignored in their own backyard?

Fajardo has really good skills, but he's like a china doll, incredibly fragile. A back injury last year, aknee injury this year...

Brett arrived early and takes summer classes, maybe he'll have his degree at the end of this year. Would love to watch him another year at Wyo, but if the end goal is now...

Fajardo isn't fragile.. he came back from his knee problem pretty quickly.

Still wearing a knee immobilizer/brace (can be adjusted, have had a similar thing myself) during games and has no designed QB runs so far, including the read option.
