Now we can all get on the "fire Shyatt" band wagon. He hasn't lead us to a conference championship either.
He has also beat a ranked team, and has a winning record
So, your ok with mediocre? No conference championships and last year, the team fell apart, How many conference games did they win last year? How many were they even competitive in?
Count me among those who who was on the margin for buying tickets on a game-by-game basis. I do not eat, breathe, sleep, and live Wyoming Football to the exclusion of all other uses of my time and money. On the other hand, I can be persuaded to buy tickets without much effort. I am the type of alumnus that the program needs to keep engaged in order to excel.
I also agree with the people who argue that there are structural problems at U.W. that go beyond the identity of a coach or the AD. Merely replacing the occupants of those posts, without other structural changes, will not be enough to change the athletic teams into programs that consistently compete for conference championships.
For those who demand that the AD also be fired before the football team can win more games, I think we must also understand that the AD's job goes far beyond simply hiring the right next coach. That is a big deal, but it really does not account for very much of the AD's time on the job.
I was a Joe Glenn fan and remain convinced that he proved he could execute a game plan on game day long before he got to Laramie. We hired him, in part, because of his three National Championships won in a playoff format. Therefore, I never found arguments based on game day. Later explanations rooted in conditioning, player discipline, evaluating recruit potential, player academic performance, etc., were more compelling. Joe Glenn proved he could coach on game day and he proved that he could connect with the state. Coach Christensen proved that he could recruit offensive athletes. He also proved that he could call an offensive game very well. He simply was unable to assemble a complete program.
When was the last time that our placekicker was a given?
When was the last time that we could honestly say that our defense gave us a chance to stay in the game when the offense was struggling?
In the final analysis, I cannot even think of a coach that we should naturally go after this year. Joe Glenn was an obvious choice because of his record and were we was in the region. Going after Missouri's staff also made sense several years ago. I think that we might do well to find someone who has NFL experience and who has been a successful head coach at a college or in the NFL. Our best target might not be a hot name right now, but we need someone who has the technical skills to do the job and who can sell NFL knowledge to prospects rather than bringing a WOW factor this year.
