All 3 are going to transfer. I think we could use felker next year, stewart probably would struggle for playing time with kankolongo coming in next year. I figure he probably would not be able to go back to wr. Would be nice for depth at rb but I guess we still have Darius Terry back.

Wonder what the deal is with Felker? He would seem to be in line for significant playing time next year.
 
Felker does hurt big time. The Dline takes another hit. We're supposed to be switching to a 4-3 next year. Who will start?

Purcell started a couple games. And Mertens was just granted a scholarship as a walk-on. But, we need to sign a couple JUCO guys to build depth. We have some DL commitments, but we need some JC guys to spread it out.
 
Seems like a lot of transferring going on. How common is this in D1 football? And how much of this is generated by DC to the players involved? I mean does he sort of make it clear that the players involved will have to step it up or be on the bench?

It happens every year in all programs. It's more rare that starters transfer/quit, but that also happens. If a player feels he's likely to get the starting nod somewhere else, he just might bolt.

He probably figured out that he'd be the third string back at best in the upcoming season, and that he wouldn't do much elsewhere either. He's not impressive enough to ever make it at the next level, so he decided to focus on school, which is a very smart move, even if I'm sure it was not an easy decision to make.

All the best to him in the future.
 
I understand his decision was based soley on the fact that he lost his passion for football. Some will see him as a quiter, others will see him as an individual who is doing what is best for himself.
 
If Stewart decided to focus on school I think that is great. There is a reason they are in Wyoming and it is to get an education as well as play football. He didn't want to waste that scholarship that another athlete could have used.

I'm sure there are lots of athletes that just go through the motions in order to get their school taking care of and aren't truly dedicated to the program. Talking about all programs and not just UW.
 
Has there been an article written about these players leaving? I have not seen any links. Players leaving like this is no big deal, it happens in every program and we will survive. It's a shame to lose Brandon though he ran the ball very well and will be missed. Don't assume his production can be easily replaced.
 
Frankly I am not upset that we have lost these kids, but I do wish them all the best.

In my opinion, if Felker was going to see time playing on the DL it was this last season but a true freshman came in and played in front of him, so Felker wasn't going to see much if any playing time.

Brandon Stewart, while I am surprised that he made the decision that he did in a way in another way I am not. He did play with heart, but the kid just wasn't going to make it at a D.1 level school as a RB. He has some quicks but when he got hit he was knocked back constantly. Did you notice that when Alexander got hit he would usually fall forward and get some more yardage after contact. When Stewart got hit, that was it. He was really hit hard in the bowl game, and with the new freshman coming in and all of the time that football takes, I applaud him for concentrating on his studies.

Trent Marsom, who knows how much of an adjustment Laramie was over the islands? I also felt that he wasn't going to see a lot of playing time.

Benjamin had the same issue with ACS, but it surprised me a little since he did see the playing field and he was a rising senior.

This turnover is NOT unusual and so when someone else sounded surprised earlier in this post they haven't followed college football too closely that is for sure.

I do feel that we will be a better team next year, but we will need to be as our schedule just gets harder.

Every program loses 4-5 players every year, like already stated (unless you're CU, then you lose a dozen, super talent included :P ). As long as it's not your starters disappearing, it's not a huge deal.

I already like the looks of this year's recruiting class. It's going to be difficult to replace our d-line standouts, but other than that, we should get better on pretty much every position, especially WR.

Here's the deal, though - you're not going to keep everybody. It just won't happen. You can also only have so many players, and when a few unmotivated guys walk away, it frees up space for walk-ons, some which for one reason or another slipped through the cracks and never got recruited. Having the possibility to let those guys try out for a spot is never bad.

None of the people that walked away were people we truly needed, especially if they weren't 100% motivated to play for us.
 
Every recruiting class is 20-25 kids. Every senior class is 10-15 kids. Something has to happen in between. I don't blame Benjamen one bit. This is probably his last chance to ever play organized football. Why not take a chance to go somewhere to get that glory for one more season. I have amazing admiration for a guy like Stewart to quit football to concentrate on school.
