Bracketology

Andy Katz gives the Pokes some love but Lunardi apparently isn't buying the Pokes just yet. I know it's still early and there's lots of time for all teams to make their destiny, but why the hell is CSU (12) in the field and Wyoming in the first four out? Colorado (7) is in as well as New Mexico (7), SDSU (6), and UNLV (5). Boise is also listed in the next four out category.

I get your being upset with csu being over us, But if I had told you in August that we would be in the first four out in December you (and me both) would be ecstatic. That's how crazy this is, good job Pokes!

You're absolutely correct I am ecstatic. Just looking at this in the scope of reality of what is going on right now. Just enjoying this great ride so far. Excited for SMU and conference season to get going. I've always dreamed of a season like this, I just hope the Pokes keep playing so well.

True, but not sure why that really matters. At the time the Cowboys were 10-0 and had just come off of the win against a ranked Colorado team and the major comeback against ISU on the road. At the same time CSU had just come off of back to back loses to Colorado and UIC.

Because our SoS is shit and they have a solid one.

Our RPI was 35 before the USCB game and now were up to 27 so we are still doing good.

Our SoS is 235 that is hurting anyone taking on serious and us getting any voting attention being it based on Brackets or Polls. CSU has 152 SoS still low but far better than ours and Colorado they have the #4 SoS in the country that alone will keep them getting votes.

We just need to keep taking care of business and the ratings will come.

From all the MWC teams I've seen play......if I were doing a power rankings based on how teams would do on a neutral floor, my rankings would be as follows.....

1. Wyoming
2. UNLV
3. Boise State
4. San Diego State
5. Colorado State
6. New Mexico (Heavy penalty for loss at home to SoDak St. By a long shot MWC's worst loss)
7. Air Force
8. Nevada
9. Fresno State

CBS has Wyoming as a 5 seed, San Diego State and New Mexico as 7 seeds, UNLV as a 5 seed, Colorado State as an 11 seed, and Boise State as a 9 seed. Highly unlikely, but 6 tourney teams? That would be amazing for the MWC.

And note with the way his bracket is set up, we could have 4 MWC teams in the final 4 :winky:

Wyoming Cowboys (12-0)
Larry Shyatt's team has been a pleasant surprise. The win over Colorado was a big one and a major confidence-booster. Can the Cowboys keep things going against the likes of Mountain West favorites UNLV, San Diego State and New Mexico?

Wyoming as a #5 seed? Could you imagine? If that happened, Wyoming would take one massive step towards being labeled a "basketball school". Which would be a good thing if you ask me.

I guess I'd prefer anything but a #5 seed. I hate the 5-12 matchup, those games always are scary...there is 5-12 upset every year in the tourny. But hey I'll take what they'll give the Pokes at this point! Exciting to see the love right now, hopefully it will continue.

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico (Ticker) -- There was no magic for Dan Dickau and Gonzaga this year.

Josh Davis had 11 points and 14 rebounds and made a key defensive play as 11th-seeded Wyoming used a late rally for a 73-66 upset over No. 6 Gonzaga in a first-round matchup in the West Region.

The Bulldogs (29-4) had won 14 straight games and were bent on making a fourth straight trip to the "Sweet Sixteen." Two free throws by Dickau gave Gonzaga a 60-56 advantage with just over four minutes left.

Wyoming (22-8) responded with seven straight points and had a 63-60 lead with 2:52 remaining on two foul shots by Donta Richardson.

That's what happens in those 11/12 seed games.

Interesting that if this were how it ended up we could potentially get to play BYU if they were to beat Iowa in one of the 12 seed play-in games.

I guess no team is really safe in the first round anymore, college basketball has gotten pretty even over the last 10-15 years. I'm actually kind of surprised a #1 seed hasn't gotten beat yet, it will happen at some point I'm sure.

It's one reason I prefer Basketball to Football the little guys can still pull off things no one thinks about, in Football they don't even get the opportunity.

6 might be a slight strectch but I'm not sure if 5 would be that unlikely. The MWC is the #2 conference in RPI at the moment. I think the MWC is easily one of the top 3 or 4 conferences in the country and the top 2 will get that many teams or more into the tourny. It will all depend on how the rest of the non-conference schedules go and then if those 5 teams go 1-5 in the conference with the bottom teams not doing any damage to the top 5 I could see that many teams in the dance.

+1 Its easier to remain consistent and build something in basketball. Much tougher on the gridiron.

I started reading through some of the 3000+ comments from the AP and Coaches Polls and you would be surprised how many times Wyoming comes up with people that clearly have nothing to gain sticking up for them. I've seen big name school fans talk about how nasty the defense is and that they are only under rated because Martinez doesn't have consistent games.

I think the splash we have been looking for has been made outside of the Pollsters eyes people realize Larry Shyatt has built a defense that will beat teams they are not supposed to. One of my favorite comments is this little beauty.

@R.G. Sports SU, AZ, OSU, Fla & KU all have a worse resume than Wyoming? Are you serious? All the teams you mentioned have played ranked teams, Wyoming has not. All have a decent SOS, Wyoming's SOS is 232! Wyoming's signature win is a squeaker over unranked Colorado, who Kansas (supposedly worse resume) blew by nearly 40 pts!

I didn't know CU was u/r or our win by 7 was a squeaker haha

Colorado was ranked #19 when wyoming played them and handed them their first loss which they only have 2 losses Wy and KU. BTW thats the only team KU has currently played. SU played SDSU outdoors in the wind, who else have they played? AZ just beat Florida and who else? OSU exactly who have they beaten as of now??? Fla lost to AZ and beat Marq and who else???

The point was Wyo has the same or better resume as of right now then most of the top 10 and are undefeated and not even in the top 25.

I doubt any of you guys are this RG Sports guy mainly because he is giving us credit for a tough schedule, I know no one in here would clal our schedule tough.

@R.G. Sports Excuse me, but listing Colo and Ill. St. as signature wins is so funny, I almost pissed myself. Wyoming is doing ok right now but don't get so carried away; I mean, 5 guys off the bench of any one of the top 10 would slaughter them and everybody commenting here knows it.

I would love to see a game where Wyoming gets beat by someones bench, I don't see it happening but it shows there are some people going off score that have recognized Wyoming but have yet to see a game ( thank you mwc tv schedule ) that will have a rude awakening when they see the defense.

R.G. Sports 11 days ago
Based on your comment I can tell you havent even seen a game they have played this year. They are undefeated and currently ILL ST. is a good win for them. ILL. ST. has lost 3 games Wyo by 14, UofL by 3 (@ UofL), and Northwestern by 3. Colo is definately a good win. Stating 5 guys off the bench would slaughter them just shows your stupidity...!!!

This RG Sports guy is a San Diego Chargers fan. Anyway there are probably 40 different comments on just the Coaches Poll from CBS they go on and on. We have been noticed by the fan of Basketball just not the Pollsters.
