Boys who can catch the football

One under looked but very pleasant surprise that has factored into this otherwise semi-good start for the Pokes over their first 4 games has been the amount of pass catchers who have stepped up.

Joshua Cobbs has been awesome and he seems to be getting better every game.

Will Pelissier has shown the ability get separation and make some key catches.

"The Grunt", Wyatt Wieland, is another player who elevated his game.

Tight ends Parker Christensen and Treyton Welch have done a very nice job.

Some of our backs should get some notice here as well.

The point of this note is that the pre season perceived area of concern was who was going to step up and catch passes?

Through the first 4 games there's been much to like and OC Tim Polasek seems to be finding a comfort zone with some nice play calling (sans the Illinois game) and is finding ways to incorporate all these guys.

Go Pokes!

Everyone just assumed we had a bunch of crap for receivers this year, but lo and behold they don’t look so bad when you have a QB that can get them the ball. Our past three or four QBs couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn from 15 yards out

The poor play at WR for the last few years (outside of Neyor) was not a mirage...they were bad. An accurate QB helps a ton....We don't have game-breaking talent at WR but it goes to show that if you put it on the money more often than not, your WR's are going to get used to catching it. Once they are used to catching the ball...they will start catching the throws that aren't as good as well. There was just no way to get into a rhythm with the qb play from the last few years.

I was never as big a Neyor fan as most others (not that he was a bad player at all), but there's no question that when he left it made some people (maybe myself included) believe that we'd have major trouble at WR.

Then when Gentry went down a few days before the season started things looked even worse.

These guys have been playing their asses off and showing that as a committee of wide outs they can get the job done.

For sure, Peasley has been throwing some darts the last few weeks and they have some great chemistry going on right now.

They have been playing their asses off, but talent wise, I’d imagine we’re still in bottom half of league. I’ve been pleasantly surprised this year. I can only imagine Peasley having Neyor out there.
