Boycott Walmart in Laramie

McPeachy said:
I have my own opinion about Walmart, and choose not to share it on this UW - Football - Sports message board. I gotta admit though, the red "N" was a trashy move. When bWHYu came to town, did you put up a blue "Y"? What about when even Texas was in town...was their and orange "T" on display in your store? CSewe? Utah? Boise State? No, No, No, No, and No would be the answer. So why the "N" again? Nevermind, we already (all) know why.

I was going to mention this earlier as well, but Missoula is as football crazy, maybe even more, than Laramie.. and I can guaranfuckingtee you that there was not a single yellow A on display when Appalachian State came to town, in what was billed as the biggest game in Griz football history (and for the most part, it was), and there's not a single MSU pop can display anywhere in town when the Cats come to town. Both of these games represent HUGE revenue for the local economy, very similar to what Nebraska will provide to Laramie this weekend. Luckily, whether they are Cat or Griz, the store managers are smart enough to know where their bread is buttered 51 weeks of the year and don't bend for 1 weekend of bigger profits. Bozeman is also very much like this, they know where their loyalty is. So all in all, I think what everyone is saying is that Laramie Walmart sold out and it was a shit move.

Yes, I created a logon specifically reply to this post. I am a Laramie resident and a Wyoming native. Huge Cowboy fan and have absolutely no loyalty toward Nebraska, or Walmart for that matter, other than the fact that if it weren't here I'd drive to Fort Collins to shop more often than I do already. Now that's great for our local economy too, yes?

I posted because the OP here was wrong to instigate a lynch mob, when all the facts weren't presented. There was a display of A&W soda for weeks ahead of that big red N. It was the bucking bronco, and although it wasn't the prettiest thing I've seen (a much too intricate design for 12-pack sodas) It was brown and Gold. The store didn't turn Nebraska just for this game, it's showing both teams due respect.

Get the facts right. Complain about the Coke N, and move on. Don't make up facts like the store employees "scrambled to put up a big W" when that's inherently false. These displays are obviously built by the soda companies, maybe to put your outrage (and this thread) to rest, perhaps you should contact them to find out when each display was built.

Pepsi - (307) 745-7379

Thanks for posting those. Stick around, talk some Poke football with us. :thumb:

I was in Wal-Mart this morning and next to UW spirit on the front window it says "Welcome Nebraska fans and we have team apparel for both teams." At the end of the day it is Wal-Mart and it is all about the bottom line.

Saw that too. I thought about getting some of that window paint and adjusting it a bit.

Well, seeing all the people in Brown and Gold inside the store made up for it at least. I saw some people in red shirts, but those shirts looked like regular t-shirts and had nothing on them.

And amen to that, as it should be. Like I said before, as a matter of personal preference, I avoid Wal-Mart, but the value and profit that company produces is what makes things like the Wildcatter Club, a paved lot, and Desso Pro turf possible. Money is NOT the root of evil. :o

If it wasn't for profit and money, all of you pseudo-socialist/ anti-capitalist types would be sitting on a rock around a fire planning on pilfering the next tribe over's mammoth kill.

What on Earth is wrong with making people willing to pay hundreds of dollars a ticket feel welcome and comfortable and, hopefully, more easily parted with their hard-earned dollars while visiting Laramie? If you take a moment and set aside your 16-year-old notions of pride and loyalty, you'll see that a healthy dose of graciousness and dollar-smarts provides a healthy balance to emotions.

I did sign up to this site after hearing about this Walmart post. I don't work there but do have friends that work there and was told about this. I also shopped in Albertsons today, saw a red "N" on their pepsi displays. Obviously not as big as Walmarts but nevertheless the N is being displayed in other stores. Also drove by Laramie GM this afternoon and saw a Red car parked in front of a Gold car. Should I be offended that the red car is nicer than the gold one? Clearly they are huskers fans and don't care about hometown values. This is a highly publicized game being the first time Nebraska is here so why wouldn't retailers capitalize on that.

WOW!!! You people are pathetic, I have been reading this forum during the past week and must conclude that you are some of the most childish fans I have had the pleasure of following. Exactly how old are you? Most fans welcome in the visiting team and its fans. You could all learn something from the fans you despise so much. Upon arriving in Lincoln NE you are greeted by friendly people who will go out of their way to point you in the right direction for a good meal. They will invite you to their tailgate for good food, drinks and conversation. This behavior lasts as long as you are in their city (Win or Lose). But here.....I see you willing to put your own local establishments out of business (boycott) for welcoming in the visiting teams fans (It's called Marketing). WOW! Is all I can say. Maybe you should sneak out of your parent’s house the next time your team travels and see how the grown up world acts. You even go so far as to deliberately make bogus posts to lead the others along on your misguided journey. I have traveled to several locations and have received fantastic treatment (except Boulder) which seams to have the same mind set that you do. I can only hope that this forum only represents a VERY SMALL percentage of your fan base. What an embarrassment you must be for the players that put it all on the line every Saturday.

I usually don't get involved in these conversations as this is just a tool to read all I can about the team and sport I love so much (Gods Sport).

Good luck and goodbye….GBR!!!!!

Iowa, I'd go out on a limb here and say that you'll find some great hospitality in Laramie tomorrow, if you made the trip for the game. I think you'll walk away impressed. Just a guess.

Just another Nebraska fan thinking they are the greatest fans on earth and there are no loser nebraska fans. get off it. I personally believe Wyoming has the greatest fans. Who else would use a little gasoline on the turf? I'd still like to know who did that and buy them a beer.

NO, I mentioned how great the fans were at the locations that we have traveled too. Yes,I guess I did tell you how you would be treated in Lincoln but compared it to other great locations as well. Yes, there are certainly homer Husker fans that I wish would sell there Husker gear a change teams but as you know "all teams have them". I have read through most of your threads and don't see where you come off with the "husker fans think they are the greatest". You and your Co-posters are the only ones that seem to mention it. Guess you need to "Get off it". Seems to me that you and your friends have a confidence iproblem which makes you talk down others to riase yourself above them all. Get help!

If I'm not mistaken, there was an equal Pokes display on the opposite side. I'm thinking there was no slight intended. Maybe just an over zealous wish to welcome Husker fans.
If you can afford to shop somewhere else, I suggest you do, I don't think there was any mean intent going on here. Nebraska is our closest neighbor after all. A lot of huskers shop here ,well usually in Cheyenne, but Wyoming none the less.
