Bowl Possibility?

I know I know, crazy talk right? BOWL GAME??? You want to talk about....BOWL GAMES???? I'm asking that you all please put away your bitter beer and negative perspective away for 1 minute and bare with me here. I know this season has sucked to this point, but lets be real for a minute. Being the optimist that I am, I think Wyoming can squeak out a win against SDSU and win their final 4 games. Making them bowl eligible.

I really don't think that's crazy talk. Wyoming has played some tough opponents this season and honestly, they played Utah and BYU better than I expected. The Aztecs are coming to Laramie this weekend and will have been on the road for two consecutive weeks. As good as they are, that's still a very tall task for them. If Wyoming can get past them, they are way more than just capable of beating UNLV, New Mexico, and Colorado State.

On to the bowl scenarios: I think its safe to assume one of TCU or Utah will be in a BCS Bowl game. That leaves the following bowl games the MWC has tie-ins with: Armed Forces Bowl, Independence Bowl, Poinsettia Bowl, Las Vegas Bowl, New Mexico Bowl. My guess would be Air Force, Utah, San Diego State, and BYU would occupy four of those five bowl games. Fortunately for Wyoming, unlike previous years there will be enough bowl games available for them to not get snubbed. A 6-6 record would get them invited somewhere, most likely back to the New Mexico Bowl. They could also snag a spot in San Francisco for the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl if the Pac-10 does not have enough eligible teams(UCLA, ASU, UW are all barely hanging on).

Basically what I'm trying to say here is; don't give up just yet. The MWC really set up the Pokes with an extremely rough first half of the season. Now that the dust is settling, I think a bowl run is possible. Everyone get out there this weekend and cheer the Cowboys on! This season isn't over yet.......

Trivia question... (I don't know the answer)

When is the last time Wyoming put together a 4 game Conference winning streak?

I haven't thrown in the towel, but it has been a long time.

2005. Wins vs UL-Monroe, Air Force, Ole Miss, and UNLV. Wyoming went on to lose the rest of their games. 2010 could be a close reversal of that season.

UL-M and Ole Miss are not in our conference, I think that was what he was asking.

The correct answer is....

1998. Dimel's second season at Wyoming and our last in the WAC (we beat UNLV, Rice, TCU, and Fort Fart).

It was a part of a 6 game winning streak in conference play that year.

LOL trouble reading or did UL Monroe join the MWC? Thanks to Okie for coming up with an answer. My point is that we have struggled for a long time to put together any kind of conference winning streak, regardless of how bad our competition may have been.

I like te optimism, but the only bowl this team is geting is the Toilet Bowl. This season has already been flushed..... :twocents:

Not to be debbie downer, but we ain't going bowling this year.

MWC Bowls (I think) are:

MAACO Bowl Las Vegas
Poinsettia Bowl
Armed Forces Bowl
New Mexico Bowl
Humanitarian Bowl

TCU - BCS Game
Utah - Vegas Bowl
SDSU - Poinesettia Bowl
Air Force - Armed Forces Bowl
BYU - NM Bowl
WYO - Humanitarian Bowl

If it comes down to us and BYU heading to NM, they will pick BYU this year. They will play Nevada and get trounced again by them. The Humanitarian Bowl will take a MWC team IF they are bowl eligible. Just goes to show how big this game was... :brick:

:27 left in 4th quarter will go down in infamy for me.

Pittsburgh, you forgot the Indepedence Bowl!

The Independence Bowl will have the 3rd pick of any MWC team. The opponent is the ACC 7th pick.

The MWC has FIVE tie-ins this year!

I think that makes 6 doesn't it? If TCU (or Utah) gets into a bcs bowl, that's 7. Are we going to have that many bowl elgible this year?

O.K.

Currently, the MWC has FIVE bowls to work with.

Should TCU go to, say, the Fiesta i.e., a BCS bowl, we'll have 6 bowls to work with.

And if heaven forbid should Utah also go to a BCS bowl, we'll have 7.

This could be the year the MWC only sends 4.

I don't think BYU will make a bowl game....I honestly think CSEwe will beat them in Fort Collins. BYU is HORRIBLE away from their own referees in Provo (0 for 4 including a loss at 2-5 Utah St) while CSEwe is actually pretty good at home (2 for 3 with a respectable 27-0 loss to TCU).

Wyoming has a long road ahead. I think the Pokes can do it with this weekend being the toughest.

good info there. This is like deja vu all over again. We were in similar situation last year heading into SDSU. I don't think there is anything wrong with "playing the best," but we need another patsy on the schedule. Our schedule this year was brutal.

This.

Simply put, if Wyoming wins their next 4 games they are going bowling. Period.

Against the 4 weakest teams in the conference....don't end up with a line-up like that very often either.

Technically SDSU is stronger than Air Force...
