As far as I'm concerned, this year will tell me everything I need to know about whether or not DC is going to succeed at Wyoming. The vast majority of the starters will be DC recruits and I don't buy the "freshman quarterback excuse" for one second. Is winning with a true freshman QB a difficult task? You bet it is...but the fact that we are forced to start a freshman QB (or rush in a JUCO QB last second) is ultimately a failure in recruiting/coaching. That falls squarely on DC's shoulders.
The attrition since DC arrived is alarming, but I'm not one bit surprised by it. The downside to being a tough nosed, no nonsense coach is that things can really go south fast if the team doesn't win. Players are generally happy to put up with an asshole coach, as long as they see results on the field. All that attrition has really put our offense in a tough spot this season, and there is nothing to make me think things are going to change in the future. I'll concede that DC has recruited more talented players, but is that enough to overcome the attrition and lack of depth? I think the answer to that question lies in this upcoming season.
If we flop again this season, I will have lost any faith I had in DC. That being said, I also know that DC will inevitably get at least 5 seasons before the administration decides to can him. Man, the thought of watching another 2-3 years of crappy football while we trot out our inexperienced team makes me cringe. I sure hope DC turns this ship around this season.
