Boise needs to get out while they still can

If I'm the Boise president I start exploring going independent. Moving to the MWC for Boise is basically staying in the WAC with most of those programs now moving to the MWC. The whole point of Boise moving was to play better competition and prove to the country they could really compete. Well that's out the door. Boise right now has enough momentum in their football program to stay relevant as an independent. They wouldn't have to come into the MWC's crappy TV contract and never been seen on TV again. As an independent they could probably keep their current ESPN tv deal. No BCS team is excited to schedule Boise but they could still fill the schedule with MWC/WAC teams and still have the same schedule they would have had in the conference lol. Plus no revenue sharing!

At this point Why doesn't the big east consider adding Boise as well? Geography with the current state of college football does not matter. I honestly don't see the long term viability of TCU in the BE but for right now it was the right move for all involved. The BCS I believe will be done away with in the next 10-15 years or at least in our lifetime probably rendering all these moves irrelevant.

Boise doesn't have many options and there is no way they could survive as an Indy. What Boise should do, is not lose to Nevada. That loss hurt them more than just a mark in the "loss" column.

Who would Boise schedule? No one wants to play them. I don't think ESPN would give Boise a deal like NBC gives Notre Dame.. they're still Boise State, irrelevant to the East Coast. Plus, if Boise doesn't have the MWC for all of their other sports, they will die. They're not good enough academically to be in the Pac10, they don't fit w/ the WCC, Big West I don't think would take them.. Big Sky would want them for football.

They could keep all other sports in the WAC. I really think Boise football is popular enough to sustain itself as an independent. The WAC and MWC would still schedule them anyway. Their games always get great ratings on ESPN and I'd think ESPN would be happy to continue with that tv contract.

You're still assuming the WAC survives in its current state.. which seems more unlikely by the day.

It takes a whole hell of a lot of cash to make it as an independent. Boise State isn't that flush with money. BSU going indepedent is not feasible.

This, plus a national following, hell of a TV deal, huge home attendance & income levels.

Watch the next few years, as bWHYu becomes the next "Army" of the 3 independents. And they have money, an "ok" TV deal (and a ghey HD truck), home attendance & income levels. National following? Only in their better-than-thou LDS heads!

You have to be pretty special to survive independence these days...Boise wouldn't stand a chance in hell (as similarly would be the case for almost every school out there).

The only reason BYU will make it as an independent is BYUTV. It's simple it's a very high tech facility for television broadcasting, Back in the 90's they rented out their HD Trucks for $100,000 a game. That was 10+ years ago so you can imagine how much those HD truck rentals are now.

On top of that BYUTV is huge The network is currently available to more than 40 million cable and DTH (direct-to-home) satellite subscribers in the United States. BYUtv is available on cable in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, California, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

I'll be very very surprised if BYU doesn't make it as an independent, Boise on the other hand way to small to try to go independent just like Hawaii isn't likely to be able to pull off being an independent.

How many of those 40 million subscribers even KNOW that they have BYUTV? Much less watch it? I have Bresnan Digital Cable and apparently I've had BYUTV for quite awhile but didn't even realize it until all of the BYU fans on the MWC board said it was on there. It may be in a lot of homes, but that doen't mean that all of those people will watch them.

Of course you wouldn't notice it you hate BYU as do I, Believe me the BYU fans know they have that channel and they know when BYU goes independent that is where all the games will be televised.
