Boise has a new coach...

Bryan Harsin, current coach at Arkansas State, and former Boise and Texas OC, took the job this morning. Other candidates were Justin Wilcox, Jeff Tedford and Dirk Koetter.

Pretty much the coach who I thought they would bring in. Very good hire but then again Boise State had some great options. We were lucky we landed the guy WE wanted.

BSU usually hires in the family, but I find it interesting that Tedford doesn't seem to be finding a landing spot? I know many were on his bandwagon and I was not opposed to the option. It will be interesting to see if hires on somewhere or if ADs are sensing something they don't like.

Wonder if he's holding out for Fresno.

I wonder if other ADs who are looking for a new coach are wondering if he still has the passion to coach at the high level that he used to have.

A lateral move. Gotta good coach, i see this and continue t think, why can't wyoming get a hint.

Regardless, there will be a lot of question marks come next season in this conference. Curious to see how many other coaches leave the MWC?

I think Rocky Long will retire at SDSU. Hody Doody is at Air Force until he retires or gets the boot. MacElwayne (probably butchered the name) is probably there until a bigger name comes along or gets the boot. Hauck, 1 winning season and got an extension, hard to say. UNM guy, starting to get thin ice at UNM, but has the offense going in the right direction. Boise got the Arky State guy, but the days of 7-5 and 8-4 being a bad year for BSU may be switched. What's Arky State's record the last few years? Wells isa USU alum, only been there 1 year, but did pretty well, despite losing Keeton for the year. DeRuyter, did very well with Pat Hill's recruits, but has yet to prove what he can do with his own guys. Chow, well, his offense can put up a ton of points at times. Says he wants to retire at Hawaii, but if things keep going at this rate, he may only have 1 more year. The guy at SJSU loses Fales and a couple of key players, and his team has looked good sometimes, and downright bad at others. Hard to say.

I believe that his money expectations (all facets) were not met by UW - to answer your question.

Interesting. From Burman's comments (I know, not worth much) it sounded as if he had Bohl targeted and in discussion for months and that he really didn't talk to anyone else. I doubt he is telling the truth, however.

At one time, I remember looking at OCs that went on to flop (mainly in NFL). Not always, but if I remember correctly, it seemed like a consistent theme was they had a great QB during their OC days (Charlie Weis--Tom Brady for example; lol..you probably could add DC and Chase Daniels).

I might not remember that correctly and it would be interesting to look at, but I'm mildly curious to watch Harsin. Great OC, but he also had K Moore.

Mature offensive talent will cover up quite a few coaching deficits.

Harsin's no more quantifiable than Bohl at this point. He wasn't exactly killin' 'em at Arky State, and he's got some huge shoes to fill. Petersen's as talented as any coach in College Football. He'll have the Huskies at the top of the PAC-12 in three seasons.
