Bohl to Purdue

One of Purdues best. He was pretty average for us at the time, aside from the year he took the safety vs. BYU in the championship game. Before that season he was about .500 every season. That might seem good now, but following Roach it was pretty hard to tolerate.

I will say he was slightly above average, especially since he avoided any bad seasons, but following Roach there was a lot of people that weren't satisfied with .500. I was one of them. Then when he took the safety and gifted BYU the game, his fate was sealed. We let him go.

I would take him over any coach we've hired since with the possible exception of Bohl. That doesn't change his 39-30-1 record at Wyoming though. He WAS slightly above average while he was here.

Oh, no doubt. Grew up on the other side of the Bighorns (as in west of the Bighorns). One of the things that still gets me to chuckle a bit is when I hear someone from Sheridan say on the other side of the Bighorns referencing Buffalo/US16 vs Sheridan/US14. It is good to be back home.

imo, the Buffalo part of the Bighorns are a lot better, more roads more places to hang, etc....Sheridan's side just doesn't do much for me. Long live Doyle Creek and the Hazleton area, LOL

I grew up on the Basin side of the Bighorns. I love it over there. That said, I also did a survey over in Greybull one summer day and it was a downright hellish 114-116 degrees that day. Regardless personally, I think all of Wyoming is God's Country especially the north half.

Bohl was committed to NDSU for a long time. He turned down a lot of job offers before Wyoming, waiting for the right fit.

I don't think he'll just run off to anybody. I think he's perfectly content to wait for the Nebraska job to open up from the comforts of Laramie.

I don't think we'll lose him to anyone other than Nebraska. He likes it here.

I agree with this. Bohl has his wyoming land for retirement, my friend Leia loves horse back riding, I see him trying to get 3 more years from Wyoming with a big monetary contract and retire there in 5 years

I see Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin and Kansas State as the only jobs that seems like "real fits" for him to move on. No other jobs make any sense to me. It would be going outside of his profile and comfort level. Of all of those jobs, only the Kansas State job is one I could see coming open in the near future.

IMO, the Tiller era at Purdue had made it almost impossible for any other coach except maybe Urban Meyer or Saban to win at Purdue.

Not much football history unlike Wyoming which does. A P5 stepping stone job. Plus Tiller did so well by passing the ball back when everyone else in the Big Ten was still running it like crazy. He forced the conference to start having better passing defenses.

I'd also say it raised expectations. They're in the Big Ten East...along with powers Michigan, Ohio State and Michigan State. His successor got them to two bowl games in four years...and got canned. They've gone 9-35 since.
