Bohl says he gonna have Wingard return punts....

because DJ May is playing too much.

It seems that Wingard is making every other tackle. If anyone needs a rest it would be him.

The good players are being over used just to keep this show on the road.

May has done a decent job of returning punts so I am not sure that this change makes much sense. However, Wingard is a damn good football player and perhaps he will be a better punt returner than May.

Wingard playing so well, one of the bright spots. So, why not increase his chances of getting injured?

I love that kid (Winegard) wasn't he a star track athlete and also played RB in high school? All I know is the kid is a play maker and we need a play makers in as many positions as possible.

Agree 100% same reason I'd freak out if Hill were ever back there returning kicks. There are special team players for a reason. You want to test someone returning kicks then put someone back there that isn't playing good week in and out.

I'd think this would be a great place for Overstreet.

I think this sounds like a fairly normal call from the coach. They both start on defense, so split the return duties. May sticks with kick offs and Wingard takes the punts. Many teams use their starters for return duties, as you want the ball in the hands of your best players. It's all about balance.

Not sure about this decision...

My longevity doesn't rest / rely on what the kids do on the field (and classroom) though, so best of luck with the change!

Let's tap the brakes. There is a difference between "returning punts" and "fielding punts." They don't have a "field returner" position, therefore, he is listed as a "punt returner" who will be fielding punts. This makes sense to me. He is already in the game. Just slide on back to field the punt. I am seeing him take an active leadership role. He is sure-handed. He can general the defense. Play for fakes, etc. For how often we return punts, I would think this is just easier.

I would definitely be more worried is he was kick returning. I think kick returns should be guys who aren't first string, but that is a different argument.
