Bitching

Just sent my uncle a message chewing him out for ignoring/avoiding his mother for who know's what reason. The only thing I can even think of, and it would a stupid reason, is because she didn't have $10,000 to buy an old Chrysler that was my great-grandfather's and sat in the garage for about 50 years or so and was sold off by my great-uncle and aunt. My uncle had wanted it for awhile to restore it, but it's been about 2 months or so since my grandmother (his mother) has heard from him. Prior to this, they would talk about once a week. He didn't even call on Mother's Day.

Moore, a southern suburb of Oklahoma City, got hit really hard by a F5 tornado (worst kind of a tornado). Parts of that city looks like a war zone. I think an elementary school in Moore got destroyed. No deaths so far (hope that stays the same for the next several hours).
 
Update: 36 dead so far. Children trapped in a collapsed elementary school, possibly 24 of them are feared dead. It's complete and utter devastation for miles in a heavily populated suburb.

I think a friend of mine on Facebook said she had 3 nieces who went to that school.

I should have made a new thread about this, but I wasn't thinking so I'm just putting this here:

People have been donating like mad! There are so many material donations but right now people don't have a place to put things. I spent 9 hours on a mental health disaster response team yesterday in the hardest hit areas. I talked with a lady yesterday whose house was heavily damaged & was mostly still standing, but was scooted off the foundation 2.5 inches and will have to be demolished because it is structurally unsound. And places where glass and 2x4's and fence posts were in splinters. It was pretty unbelievable - I was there for mental health assessments so I was hearing their stress and experiences and fears more than I was moving debris (which I did as well). I dreamed about it last night. Will probably take a bit to process it all, even for a professional.

The things that could top an F5 tornado would be something like Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD., a hurricane like Katrina, or a massive earthquake like the 1989 earthquake near San Francisco. Mother Nature has a way of humbling mankind.

Rule # 1: Never piss off a woman.
 
Glad to hear both of you are ok, but wow there are a lot of people down there that are hurting. I have been gone to the midwest for the last 10 days, so have been away from the computer. The area that I was in got hit with tornados & storms too, but no where near the severity that they got in Moore, OK.
 
Thank you all so much. I spent this morning in the area again. I have more pics, but need a break before I post them - it's pretty heavy. I have 2 funerals to attend tomorrow, and the adjusters coming out to look at the house. I am a native Oklahoman - native to Central Oklahoma, in fact. If you are not sure where Moore is, it is the OKC suburb directly north of Norman - there's virtually no break between the two. North Norman = South Moore. I moved to Norman for college in 92, and lived there for 10 years while I went to school, worked throughout Cleveland County, and started grad school. Many of my former clients (and soooo many friends) are among the 13000 home impacted. Places that I used to drive daily are now unrecognizable. A week ago right now, we were trying to figure out what in the world just happened... This will be a long LONG recovery. Thank you for your continued thoughts :)
