Biggest wins in program history

COS Cowboy said:
Didn't we beat a highly ranked Arizona State team in Laramie one time in the early 70s?

Yep. September 30, 1972 - VS. #17 Arizona State, 45-43.

What's your take on this, Wyokie? You're our resident historian!

First off thank you for the compliment.

Secondly...we don't have enough biggest wins but the "Close but no turkey" games...too many to count and most of those have been starting the early 1990s when I moved to Oklahoma .

Actual wins....
1950 - beating Baylor, 7-0, in the dedication game for WMS.
1955 - beating Texas Tech, 21-14, in the Sun Bowl.
1959 - beating North Carolina State at their place, 26-0.
1966 - beating Florida State, 28-20, in the Sun Bowl for our last bowl win prior to 2004.
1972 - beating #17 Arizona State, 45-43, at WMS
1981 - beating #13 BYU at the WAR, 33-20
1987 - beating BYU at their place for the last time EVER in Provo  , 29-27.
1988 - embarrassing BYU on National T.V. (ESPN), 24-14 although the final score was misleading (shoulda been something like 42-14)
1999- - embarrassing BYU again on National T.V. (ESPN), 31-17, at the WAR
2004 - Beating UCLA, 24-21, in the Las Vegas Bowl for our first bowl win in almost a half century!

Long-time lurker, first-time poster.

Great lists by everybody. But here are a couple of games from the pre-WMS era that have been overlooked.

103-0 at Northern Colorado (1949) - The largest post-WW2 victory by any "major" program. The annihilation made national headlines and put Wyoming's program on the map.

6-0 at Colorado (1935) - Wyoming was the only RMAC team to beat Colorado (5-4 overall) that year. Colorado posted five RMAC victories by outscoring their opp. 128-6... This was a huge late-November upset for Wyoming. The Pokes finished the year 4-4 and this was their first-ever victory against Colorado after 13-straight losses. Wyoming's only other victory against CU was in 1982.

Oddly enough, KSL :)

My sister saw the float and sent me a pic as well. I'm getting some Facebook run with this one.

Same here.

BTW, Northern Colorado was known as Colorado State College of Education (no joke!!) at the time we beat the holy crap outta them 103-0 (still an NCAA record). They renamed it Colorado State College in 1957 the same exact year Colorado A & M became Colorado State University. So basically there were two Colorado States. LOL

Also, the infamous 222-0 Georgia Tech over Cumberland beatdown in the 1920s was BEFORE the NCAA got started so our 103-0 is in the record books, not the 222-0 score.

Thanks for the welcomes.

The NCAA goes back to 1906. Its formation was a part of the many reforms that took place to make football a safer game. So I'm not sure why they don't include GT's infamous 222-0 victory. None the less, I'm not complaining.

Up until that game Northern Colorado was a regular opponent on Wyoming's schedule. In fact the Pokes' first-ever intercollegiate game was 34-0 pasting of the "Greeley Teachers".

About the bold....I'm stumped as well. I do know the NCAA got started due to Teddy Roosevelt wanting safer rules and regulations for college athletics.

It may not have been an official NCAA sanctioned game. As I recall the story behind the game was GT's opponent Cumberland has disbanded their football program the year before. GT had the game scheduled and insisted Cumberland honor it, so Cumberland threw together a team using fraternities, played the game and got walloped. The NCAA may not have kept records then too.
