If we are serious about wanting to be a great football program. It has little to do with head coaching. This is the assistant coach salary per Tracy ringolsby at gowyogo.

Team Salary

Boise State $2.187M

Colorado State $1.560M

San Diego State $1.426M

Air Force $1.341M

Fresno State $1.275M

New Mexico $1.1814M

UNLV $1.005M

Nevada $1.000M

Wyoming $924,000

Hawaii N/A

Not disagreeing at all - but what assistant specifically did UW miss out on due to lack of $$. Which one left because they were offered more elsewhere?

Can't disagree with you in the least. The administration needs to step up here big time if they really want a winning program. The assistants salary needs to be increased to at least $1.5 M in my opinion. Secondly, the administration needs to get the transfer rules in order so Wyoming can compete for JC players better. Also, the administration needs to increase the recruiting budget significantly. If these three things are not done then the new coach will have one arm tied behind his back right from the start.

It's not about the ones that left, it's about the ones who were never interested in the first place.

I think it's like any business deal. A good assistant coach wants to coach where he is happy and financially compensated accordingly. If a job in Albuquerque one in Logan Utah and one in Laramie is available and Wyoming pays the least of all the jobs to live in the worst climate, you bet Wyoming will not land the coach.

Now that being said, rumor has it that the assistant budget has gone up so this could all be moot.

When Bohl re-negotiated his contract at NDSU, there was a clause that his pool for assistants would be in top 10% of FCS. Curious if something similar was negotiated for us.

For the record, I thought/hoped it would be Tedford, thinking Bohl had taken himself out of the running. Now that Bohl is in, I am on board. Toughness, knows how to recruit to cold and smaller markets, solid record and history at bigger schools. Got to give Burman credit - he pulled it off and kept us guessing the whole way! :thumb:

For the record I think he negotiated it on this hire as well.

Wyoming: Sources tell us that Craig Bohl has offered positions at Wyoming to offensive coordinator Brent Vigen, defensive coordinator Chris Klieman, recruiting coordinator (receivers) Kenni Burns, linebackers coach Steve Stanard and offensive line coach Scott Fuchs. We also hear that at this time, Bohl plans to continue to coach his NDSU team through their playoff run.

So we added $160K? Up to $1.084 million. A decent increase but we're still towards the bottom.
Assistant pool is up to 1.3 million and the recruiting budget went from 168 to 268k.

You would have to know what the DC Coaching staff was getting but I'm betting it was pennies compared to what he negotiated for.

It does dwarf the previous staff when you take the 500,000 more that DC was getting and move it to the assistant pool. 200 K + 500 K = 700 K. His assistants will be getting average MWC pay, but he will only be making 750,000 to start out.
