Big XII Wrestling Tournament

Polson gives up late 5-2 lead in the 3rd period and is pinned by 2 seed Mueller.

Disappointing finish to Pope and Polson’s careers. Unlikely they will or Foster will receive an at-large bid.

5 quality qualifiers (Bridges, Meredith, Turner, Colgan, Ashworth). All have All-American potential if they wrestle their best.

141 this year is the toughest weight. Meredith will have his hands full (Heil, Jack, Eierman, Yianni, McKenna, Nick Lee, etc...). Right now, Ohio State’s McKenna is probably wrestling the best in the country at the weight.

Turner loses and Ashworth wins with a tech in the first. Missed Bridges match though...

Bridges and Ashworth take 3rd.

Turner was teched by the same guy he wrestled closely in the quarters.

Polson gets a tech fall for 5th place.

Pokes pretty much guaranteed to take 4th place.

Bryce's re-match with Heil tonight is huge! Win and Meredith likely locks up the #1 seed at the NCAAs. Lose and I could see him sleeping as far as 4th or 5th seed. This matters with the depth at 141. As the #1 seed, Meredith could make the semi-finals without having had to have faced a wrestler seeded higher than #8. While Meredith will have to beat the best to accomplish his goals, having a few less difficult opponents in the first few rounds of the NCAAs is important.

As far as opponents:
-Kevin Jack NCST was upset by an unranked wrestler from Virginia at the ACC championships who Jack tech falled just 2 weeks earliers. Very surprising result.
-Joey McKenna dominated the Big 10 championships and looks to be in line for a high seed at the NCAAs. He is wrestling as good as anyone in the country and hopefully will be on the opposite side of the bracket from Meredith.

3-2 Meredith after the first period! Meredith gets his first ever takedown against Heil and rides him out for the rest of the period.

3-3 after the second period. Heil escapes and no further points. Meredith will start down heading into the 3rd. Riding time a non-factor with 26 seconds in favor of Meredith.

Heil with the reversal but Meredith hangs on to win 6-5!! Huge win and big confidence boost for Bryce knowing he can take down Heil. Bryce should be the #1 overall seed at the NCAAs having only 1 loss on the year.

Colgan with a big 4-3 win over Ream NDSU to avenge an earlier season loss!

2 Big-12 champs, great day today for the Pokes!

Early guesses:
Bridges - 7 seed
Meredith - 1 seed
Ashworth - 11 seed
Turner - unseeded
Colgan - 9 seed
