BIG XII Expansion

I don,t ever want CSU to succeed. Its part of the ole rivalry I grew up with being a true WYO guy. But if CSU gets a big 12 invite and the Bohl football success continues into what we all hope and think it will. That could mean that the border war lives and we get to have a perennial legitimate opportunity to beat up on a power 5 school. I don't see anything wrong with that idea (outside of CSU getting what they wan't.)

Wait... Are you saying that "if" csu got into the big 12 that you think they would ever play Wyoming again? Almost sounded like you believe an every season rivalry would continue.

According to this, the Big XII aka Big Mess is NOT interested in ANY MW schools....

Not sure what you read... This is what I read:

Big 12 And now we get to the attention hog that is the Big 12 as of late. By letting West Virginia go to the ACC, the Big 12 now sits at nine teams. That means adding BYU, Houston, Colorado State, New Mexico, Wyoming, UNLV and Memphis. How can you not be OK with any of those choices for expansion? The metros (outside of Wyoming) are all sizeable and each school is a decent fit in its own way. -

CSU would become our version of what CU is to them today. They would demand only home or neutral site games. They are already full of themselves...can you imagine if they were P5 (even if they are signing up to be Texas' and Oklahoma's bitch and overall a 3rd class member by being forced to take less of a draw than all other teams in the conference - which would consign them to the cellar for most years)? While I would love to see them become the Wake Forest or Vandy of the Big XII, I would rather they find a similar role in the MWC. They may well have found the magic sauce in all of the bonds and debt financing they are undertaking, but it is a risky proposition in our current economy and considering trends in higher education. They are banking on maintaining high enrollment and being able to charge hellacious tuition and fees to balance the books.

On the other hand, I think that UW is shooting itself in the foot by being overly conservative the other way. We will kill our only hope at finding some diversification in our economy if the Legislature and higher ups in Laramie (at UW) relegate us to a glorified community college. As my old boss always said: NEVER WASTE A CRISIS. Well, we have a three alarm blaze and an opportunity to pare certain things back (while still achieving our land grant mission) and really investing in four or five things to FINALLY be excellent at something. As I see it today, we are doubling down on being mediocre by trying to save everything and being all things to all people. Even with cuts, we are nigh onto a billion dollar state spend on UW. UW is not in the poor house. UW has a prioritization problem. UW has a problem with those that suggest any demand for excellence, pulling your own weight and being held accountable to deliver (in terms of teaching, publishing and finding dollars to support yourself) is a call for retrenchment of academic freedom and a slippery slope towards Halliburton running UW. That is all whitewash and hogwash to protect the status quo. We have to pay our good faculty, pay our good coaches, optimize federal, private and grant dollars and incentivize faculty to go get such funds where they can, find the soft spot in enrollment (where you cover your operating nut and minimize the state subsidies that we would pay for more students) and let the rest go. If you want to see what a socialist system gets you...just look at ANY university that allows the masses to run the show. The best ultimately leave, the rest stay and any boat rocking or tough questioning results in public attack and a trip to functional Siberia under the guise of "academic freedom" violation. As was stated in another thread...a spade is actually a spade and we have to start acknowledging the general shape and color of what a spade looks like. Unless we do, the ticks will only bore in deeper...and we only have so much blood to go around.

Now, back to CSU and the turds that they are and always will be...

Agree. They, especially UNLV, have a huge upside.

What upside? Better strip clubs?

Well...for one, yes. Much better. In fact, outside of your old stomping grounds (Clowns Den & Green Door) - not sure any others exist in Wyoming?

Don't make me list all the "other" upsides of that place (Vegas), please!

I can guarantee you the strip clubs are better there than the ones here in OKC without ever going to one in Vegas. There's one here that so bad you need an armed escort with ya the entire time in there (Red Dog Saloon).

LOL I won't. Vegas will be getting a NHL team in 2017...only to have them move within 4-10 years plus the Raiders are probably moving there in 2017 or 2018.

You should probably click on the link in your quote (hint: not the original link that you quoted) to see what he's talking about. It includes the following quote:
That list is now down fewer than 10 teams but the list is reportedly not including any Mountain West teams.

I might have sampled the other upsides during the 2015 mw tournament

I had been conditioned not to expect beer while watching the game and then I saw people drinking without the world ending and it was good.

Best thing I've ever done. Oh, and my kids

For the record,

http://denver.cbslocal.com/2016/08/31/csu-survives-first-cut-for-big-12-conference/

However, is's not worth worrying about.

We need some wins dammit!

I would hope so. The border war is a long standing tradition similar to CU-CSU. It is certainly possible that they would withdrawal but it sure would be nice if we had it going for a while. Long enough to do to CSU in football; what WYO did to CU in basketball. I am ok with the rivalry ending because they find out they cant beat us anymore. ha! made myself laugh there.

Who would have thought Boise would miss the cut and Colorado state would mage the cut.

That proves that the new stadium is creating more impact than wins alone.

Actually, I think CSU made the cut over BSU due to BSU's relative academic weakness and geography. The new stadium is certainly a factor though.

Frankly I think the B12 thinks their schools are above BSU and would not want to include a school that was a JC just a few decades ago.
