Big East contacts Fresno, UNLV

What I am getting out of all of this is that...

Big East is folding...Trying to stay alive....Raiding MWC....Whether teams go to Big East or stay in MWC, in a few years it will all be the same teams, just different conference name.....End of story is it's the Big East commissioner versus the MWC commissioner for the same job. One gets to be the commish of the conference and gets to call it what he wants, while the other is looking for a new job.

I hope it's craig thompson that wins this battle so we eventually have a B-ball POWER that is the best in the USA having USU BYU WYO NM CSU & AFA in one division and Boise, UNLV, SJSU, Suds, Nevada, and fresno in the other.

Our B-ball will be the best or 2nd best in the country while our football will be virtually a BCS conference with the best of the rest BS going on...

At least in the NFL, the players are making good money to beat up their body. The universities are basically robbing/using their players. This is just sick.

I paid education that can last a lifetime for the 99% that don't make the NFL, not a bad consolation prize. IE Luke Ruff who got a BSCE with like 3.6 GPA. That will go a long ways in life, trust me, I'm one.

It's tough to argue they aren't getting something - just seems like the Universities are getting a hell of alot more than the players are. I always figured the NFL players made a few million over their careers and could retire fairly easily without a functioning body.

One tough hit to the head and that BSCE means nothing all the while the University keeps raking in the cash.

Hair Thompson and the MWC seemed to have pulled quite the coup tonight.

I agree with most of what you say, but very few NFL players are able to retire after they leave the league. A majority (78% of them within 2 years of leaving the league in 2009) of them actually go bankrupt within a few years, because they've never known how to live within their means). This is true for NBA (60% within 5 years of last game) players as well...

I'll bet they had fun going bankrupt though :tickedoff:

That is no different than people that win lotteries, there are people that are able to retire and make a good living and they generally have a game plan and they follow through with it. It's just a lack of education, understanding or common sense.

According to some SUDS fans on the mesa boards (admitted by other SUDS fans that the homerism is on level with BYU & BSU boards), they propr up the Front Range schools and we steal money from them.

And remember, College athletic departments are, for the most part, nonprofit organizations. Only around a dozen programs actually make money every year. So the true benefactor from football players on the field isn't the university, It's the individuals in nonrevenue sports that are receiving scholarship money.
