No Reb or Fresno fan sounds happy about this. But if this "contact" goes like it did with Air Force and BYU not too long ago, expect some long worded statements that are summed up to "Thanks, but no thanks."

So they invited UNLV to join in Football only..... In 2003 they were .500. 2000 was the last time they had a winning record and before that it was 1994. What this completely shows is they are not going after quality Football schools they are going after the largest media market they can obtain.
I have nothing against UNLV I love fighting against them in Football and Basketball both. I think the Big East would have a very hard sell for UNLV as they would have to throw their Basketball team under the bus and I just can't see them doing that. However this is where Basketball is the easier team to throw into a mediocre conference because as long as you can still schedule big the conference has nothing to do with your ability to win.
This is 100% about money to the Commissioner of the Big East and that is exactly why the MWC is in trouble not only today but also going forward. If the big East gets SDSU, Fresno & UNLV they can negotiate with the Television contracts because let's be honest that seals up a good majority of the media in this area.
Don't be so fast to assume they are going to turn them down. If they can show TV executives the media market they will cover and they like it that gives them negotiating power and that is something that is more powerful than anything else in the College Football world.

Losing UNLV would be the tipping point. The UNLV President's statement is worrisome as it sounds like a tpyical statement made before leaving. If UNLV goes, its almost certain that some type of western division to the Big East conference would be for all sports. If we lose UNLV and Freso, I think it is certain that UTEP, Tulsa and possibly NMSU would receive immediate MWC invites.
However, its the whole chicken and egg deal. How can a team seriosuly considering leaving the MWC for the Big East without a TV deal in place.

Well, a lot of people view the Front Range schools and overall Rocky Mountain area as a T.V. contract cancer. Anyone affiliated with those schools, ends up caught in that net. That's what everyone thinks anyway. Therefore, any conference not including those schools will have a better T.V. deal. Lord knows some of these Big East schools are pathetic on the field/court, but most bring heavy T.V. value....and that's all that matters now. Tulane or Wyoming? Wyoming may win in all sports competitively, but Wyoming cannot compete with that T.V. market or the money Tulane puts into its sports.OrediggerPoke said:

I'm not too worried about UNLV jumping ship. I tend to believe that they are more tied to the Front Range schools than anyone outside the Front Range.
If anyone is going to leave, it will be Fresno or SJSU.

Livengood came out on a Vegas radio show and if anything, insulted the Least and scolded SUDS and SPUDS for a knee-jerk move to the Least, and said that the TV deal is being worked on as we speak.
Wyoming is a great deal for TV.. you automatically get like 500,000 TV viewers in an whole state!
