BI Says Hankerson Under Criminal Investigation

Hiway Patrol. Criminal charges. Probably not for jogging too fast or jogging in the direction of traffic on a public road(I got stopped once for this).

Thank you for posting this! I had been wondering. Unlike other posters on a previous thread, I don't view losing Hankerson as a huge loss. I personally thought he was a disappointment after seeing such a physical specimen on the bench all last year. The kid brings strength and hustle to the floor, but has little basketball I.Q. or skill and his shooting form is absolutely atrocious. No big loss IMHO.

Losing him still hurts the team. People forget the bonds these young men formed with each other. Though his play may not be a huge hit. Losing his presence as a brother/teammate is the big hit. Cooke seemed to take the hit the hardest, or was the most vocal on twitter about it. Maybe to the point of getting too emotional and saying something he shouldn't have...hence why the tv announcers said Sellers started because of disciplinary issues. Just speculation about that last part.

I agree regarding the bond formed between players. They learn to depend on one another. On the other hand, Hankerson is a role player at best. It's not like we lost a 14 ppg player as we did last season with Luke. It does make one wonder just what in the hell is going on with our basketball program though.....

Seems to me we have an issue recruiting players with character. A lot of emotional, attitude, and legal issues, no?

We got kids kicking people in the head, smoking dope, stealing things, getting a little too "twitter"-happy...

Only half our team ever seems to have their poop in a group.

A lot of this is a direct impact from being in Laramie. It's easy to get bored if you aren't self motivated it's easy to get moving the wrong direction and even easier to get caught.

When I lived in Laramie it was a different time but Athletes in College still had just as much trouble.

I wouldn't put "twitter happy" on par with those others. FYI.

Not to make excuses;
Martinez had a moment of sheer stupidity (I can see why he would be pissed at a guy who took a swing at him, but kicking him in the head was way too far)
Breaking ans stealing, yeah. That bad.
Smoking dope hasn't been confirmed, only a rumor. Not unbelievable, but still unconfirmed.

As for Hankerson, in the words of AngryJoe,"You done fucked up!" When something involves the HP, you know it's not good.

However, for some of the bad apples we have had, we also have kids like Nance, Grabau, Sobey (who has really stepped up his game), and despite his appearances, Adams (though he can get too emotional, like when he threw an almost deserved punch, but it cost him a game).

Oh for sure. Some of the things I see on twitter shows a certain immaturity level though, even for someone just out of high school.

And looking back on it, there have always been some questionable types. McClain era, Schroyer era..

Just seems like a much higher percentage of bad apples than football, or any other sport for that matter.

Strictly my opinion: Bored is the last thing you should ever be as a division one student athlete in a major sport.

What very few kids understand is, It's a privilege for them to be able to play College sports not a right.

What drives me insane about students under scholarship, If you are shooting sub 70% at the charity stripe the only place you should be is in the gym practicing your free throws. There should be no reason to be bored or be lured into doing anything other than proving you are earning that spot.

Guess this is that age generation thing creeping into my forum posts.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised to see (and think there should be) a ban for players to have a twitter account as long as they are on the team. Just be up front when you recruit them, if that's a deal breaker then they can f$&@ off.

Well, if the rumor is true, and it looks like it probably is: Hankerson is probably done with basketball. Highway patrol + weed = likely transporting weed across state borders from Colorado. That's a federal case and a felony. If he had weed on him and they can prove he crossed a border then he's done.

That's the rumor I hearing to. Makes you wonder how many others on the team also partake. I guess that why they call it dope. I want my cake and to eat it to...ala mode... damn

understand the boredom in Laramie, but if they'd do what they were put there for, go to class, study and do what your coaches ask you to do, then there really shouldn't be any issues???? gets old every year when we try to invest in excitement then it all comes crashing down with injuries and stupidity....status quo of being a die hard Pokes fan

2dal, it's not just generational, I'm in my 20s, it's the character of the players and how they choose to spend their time on a division I scholarship. I've stopped following a number of players on twitter because if I didn't ...well, I'd let them know how I felt about some of their opinions.

Thankfully, according to the paper, Hank isn't facing criminal charges. That's good news. If that's the case, he should be back.

Good news. I was hesitant about the report because there was no arrest. If he was pulled over with a 1/4 ounce bag of weed he would have been arrested. There would only not be an arrest if it was a huge case and they were gathering evidence.
