Embattled WAC commissioner Karl Benson reiterated Monday his league will survive even if it loses Hawaii to the Mountain West.

In fact, Benson said the whole purpose of his conference call was to dispel any notion that his flailing league would implode with the loss of its four best teams.

UNT said no to the WAC tonight as well.

They will survive, although likely in some other form:

I guess Sun Belt will be cheering them on, if only to avoid the negative scrutiny normally allotted to their programs.

Rumor on the North Texas fan board that Louisiana Tech and New Mexico State will join a 12-team Sun Belt Conference with the announcement coming next week.

The WAC is dead (1962-2010)!

I kind of feel bad for SJSU and Idaho who probably have to drop a division in order to keep football.

Honestly my gut feeling is that Idaho will head back to the Big Sky to even out the division at 6 each since South Dakota sauid no to the Big Sky.

As for San Jose State, they'll drop football in 6-8 months and move the rest of theeir sports teams back to the Big West.

Not good. I don't like that the WAC is dying. In the grand scheme of things, if it weren't for our history, our wealthy state, and the fact we are really "the only game in town" you could very easily echange Idaho (et al) with Wyoming...

Now we are faced with less exposure in the west as well...that is, if the WAC does die.
